That did clarify things for me, thanks.

What would be some advantages of using the XDirectFB?  You said that run inside of X11 right?  Would it just be for developement purposes?

The most I can tell you is it is a 300 Mhz Arm. Not speedy. Your ram specs are

As opposed to X, it was a size requirement as opposed to speed. However,
MythTV is said to work quite well with a VIA at 600 Mhz. And, though you can
pare down X by a lot with Modular X, I'm not sure how much nor what you lose.

DFB doesn't really "load" apps - it is not a manager. Think of it as a device
abstraction layer. In other words, your application calls routines that
instantiate DFB (not the other way around). Think of it as a library of video
functions, rather than a window manager (I think you are getting all of it
confused).

So, for example, you would start Firefox from the command line. Firefox in
turn would start up DFB. DFB would then use the frame buffer to display a
gui.

Hopefully that helps clarify things rather than muddle them up.

Cheers,

Lloyd
