Xdirectfb (as far as I am concerned) is for development purposes. It allows my 
application developers (who want NOTHING to do with anything "low-level") to 
avoid dealing with our actual hardware.

It also allows them to run, for example, KDevelop for debugging rather than 
our actual boards on their fast dual-core X86 systems without regard to the 
real system.

As for what other use it for... well, you will have to ask them.
