Actually, you can hide it, but you can't turn off the Dock altogether - 
unless there is some quick command line - in that case someone let me 
know;-). Otherwise, I've found OSX to be very customizable and quite 
versatile. BTW besides Claris Emailer and MacDraw II, I also run the 
American Heritage Dictionary in Classic. Maybe there are more apps I use 
in Classic, but only rarely.
