Let me add one suggestion about Trips to Rome as well ...
Take care of your camera gear. Don't check it in, don't leave it in the hotel.
I learned this the hard way some years ago ... Cost me an EOS 1000F and a 
70-210 f/3.4-4.5 zoom.
