Hello Thomas,
Rome is definately a city where you need a good map and a person who
can read it. It is also the only city I know where it is easy to find
straight to the center and almost impossible to find out. ;-)
I experienced that two times when going by car and I had no troubles in
any other city in Italy, Spain, France etc. I concur with you that
Italians are very friendly and try to help when possible.
The next time I go there I will surely have a TS-E. Going there
without one seems to be impossible for me.
