Well, a small As style clamp on the 3229 tilt head would be excellent
too. They do make a non QR head that is even smaller and lighter. I
just think the ability to tilt both ways and lock the tilt is more
important than any swivelling abilities since the pod rotates freely
by nature.

The small Manfrotto QR head, with the smallish hex head does include a
safe lock. And it seems quite secure and easy to work. For a monopod,
it does seem to be enough. I guess though with a Pro say at a
racetrack, would might rest their camera on one all day long, and beat
it up a bit, a more substancial device would be best.

And that's why I was surprised I could not find a really well designed
monopod head only. The 3229 was really the only head that seemed to
server the purpose. I didn't pay extra for a super light carbon one
pod and then add several more pounds on the top of it. But I did need
the tilt and QR features.

BTW, I have hardly used my monopod but hope to get more use out of it
perhaps in the future while travelling and hiking and biking. Perhaps
if I ever got the chance to shoot some car racing I'd use it for sure.
it's really only to take the weight off of me for long periods of
time, the IS does a great job of steadying my shots with no pod.

I would like to see a very small high quality tilt head with an AS
style clamp built into it. I see no reason to have to piggy back all
this stuff, especially on a monopod. And manfrotto would only have to
do a very slight redesign to make the 3229 work.
