The same can be done with a 3232 + AS clamp, though admittedly you need a
wrench to rotate the AS clamp to allow side-to-side rather than
fore-and-aft tilt.  The L bracket allows you to have both, which is handy
if you're using both collared and non-collared lenses.

I'm already locked into the AS-style QR system, so this more or less makes
the decision for a monopod head.  I also use an L bracket with an AS head on
a tripod, so there's no additional cost to use it with a monopod.  I'll
concede that it's much harder to justify the 3232/AS-style clamp/L bracket
on the basis of a monopod alone.  If one already is committed to a
different QR system, the combination doesn't make much sense.
