Happy April fool's to you! More seriously though, I haven't the foggiest what you mean. Even your follow on prose doesn't help. Why would the fact that playing a recording is a computation void significance of 1p views? What it does do is show that the MGA does not derive a logical contradiction, as Quentin asserts, but is rather an intuition pump. Of course, I do suspect that an accurate (but not counterfactually correct) recording of a single computational run is insufficient to instantiate a conscious entity. But I don't know so as a proven fact, and that, I feel, is a weakness in the MGA. I also suspect that a counterfactually correct recording would be so sufficient, but a) that implies a robust universe, and b) is probably impossible due to the quantum no-cloning theorem. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prof Russell Standish Phone 0425 253119 (mobile) Principal, High Performance Coders Visiting Professor of Mathematics [email protected] University of New South Wales http://www.hpcoders.com.au Latest project: The Amoeba's Secret (http://www.hpcoders.com.au/AmoebasSecret.html) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Everything List" group.
