Reproduction is a need of mortals to perpetuate/live through their
progeny; life can be both mortal and immortal. Immortal Life need
not reproduce. Yet, it would still be alive, rather more so than us

Good point. I should have made clear that I was talking about
"terrestrial life", not about the consciousness of the soul, which
perpetuates itself through immaterial relations (like in
arithmetic, ...), and which is of a quite different nature. (By
default, all I say assumes the digital mechanist hypothesis in
cognitive science).
