It doesn't feel that way. I'm not a slow spinner and this is fine thread
(around 60 wpi). I simply draft it out and wind it on. No waiting.

Exactly. The cotton flyer is small and light, and has very little momentum
or wind resistance. This makes the take-up extremely adjustable and
sensitive to fine tuning. It's an absolute delight to work with.
