And I still have to get the bench out of there, which must be made for a 6 foot weaver, and replace it with a cut-down barstool, which might help the hip stress. But now I'm wondering if I'll get it to where I can treadle <sigh>, at least without popping aspirin every hour on the hour.
Holly, I am 5' 11" and I use a bar stool at my AVL, I sit higher at that loom than at the others. I perch on the edge of the stool and my legs aren't bent at a 900 angle, they are a little straighter. I keep my feet near the end of the treadles, not toward the hinge..... it gives me better leverage. I can weave for a couple hours with no pain to my bad right knee.
Check the springs under the shafts, they may be set too tight for the weaving you will be doing....... that will make the shafts harder to lift. They only have to be set tight enough to keep the shafts from floating when the others are raised.
If your pattern calls for lifting an uneven number of shafts, try to peg it so the majority stays down.
