Correction to the shield scenario:
Make it, that the shields need a short time, when they are not hit at all to regenerate fully. They don't regenerate at all when hit again.
That way a fleet of destroyers can have fresh ships for the front of the formation most of the time, but the battleships shields soon get useless.
