I think we found the issue. Your in an area where a small computer shop with good customer service is still able to survive. Most of the US is not that way. There is one independent shop here in Tucson that actually has inventory of any sort, and a couple of repair shop only places. The one that carries inventory tends to not have the greatest customer service, as the owner (who I know quite well) has been jerked around and ripped off by too many customers. Repair time in most shops for a desktop is 5-12 days. laptop wise, personally I am on a used MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo that I picked up from a consulting customer (low $) as a replacement for my >5 year old MacBook Pro Core Duo that had been dropped a few too many times, and the kids had pulled too many keys off it, and I did not trust being able to put it back together due to the dented sides, etc for a keyboard replacement. My wife is on an Acer (costco special, E-350), it's only 6 months old and the power connector is starting to get loose (gota love the MagSafe connectors on the mac). Luckily it has a 2 year costco warranty, and I should be OK with it. My work laptop is a Lenovo, and I am on my second worked issued laptop, my T61p was great, and this W520 is working out well too. My W520 is going to be moving to a Linux base with KVM virtual machines soon (16GB of memory is nice). Only reason my Wife's laptop is not a Lenovo was that I could not get the laptop quick enough before our trip to Israel this summer (work trip, brought the family with). For friends I have been doing a fair number of Asus laptops/ultrabooks. I have also on occasion done MacBook laptops, and even I hate to say it made the primary OS Windows. -Harry > > T > > >
