Sorry, just getting back to one of your questions.

A router is a hub with a switch.  A hub merely takes information sent to 
it and sends it to all the computers attached to it.  A switch takes 
information sent to it and sends it to a specific machine attached to it. 
I have heard it explained like this.

When someone calls your home number, all the phones ring and five people 
in your house can pick up five different phones and here the same thing. 
That is like a hub.

In an office, someone can call the office number and then ask for your 
extention and the call is sent directly to your phone and your phone only.

the other part of your question is maybe.  *GRIN*  Some hubs do contain 
firewall protection.  And, not all routers provide firewall protection. 
So, you would have to look up your hub information online and see if it is 
also a firewall.
