Once I understood what it was all about (i.e., Anno working through
his issues) I found that I could respect it and simply let it go. I
no longer really felt the need to understand it or even to build it
up or tear it down; I simply accepted it for what it was, wished Anno
the best of luck and moved on. That's really all there is to do with
it, and that may be part of why I tend to prefer the anime ending to the OVAs.
BTW: Considering Eva is soon to have it's 15th anniversary and four
new movies/OVAs in the works, I don't think it's going to die
anytime soon. It's certainly not near as popular as Gundam, but I've
seen some hentai of Char and Amuro that ain't any better than the
Rei and Askua stuff Eva "fans" churn out. Bad taste and "strange"
fandom are definitely universal in anime!
Will this be new material advancing the storyline, or simple rehashes
(or, worse, re-edits), of all we've seen before?
