Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm as
usual. We’ll have all the day’s news and Paul, of course, will have the
forecast, and our special guest tonight on the programme will be the glamorous
supermodel, Jodie Kidd. She’ll be joining me tonight, so I hope you can join me
then!
.

A very busy programme tonight. I’ll have the latest on another sperm whale,
which has become beached on the coast near Skegness. I’ll be talking to a whale
expert to find out why there have been so many whale sightings recently. Also,
I’ll be looking at the future of our region’s small traders. They’re claiming
they can’t compete with the large supermarket chains.

And, in light of the fatal crash on the A52 yesterday, we’ll be asking you what
you think can and should be done to help improve the road safety in our area. I
would love to have your comments on this. So, if you want to email me during
the day, I would be interested to read your thoughts on this. How should we be
tackling the heavy traffic in our region? Are the heavy lorries to blame, or do
we have dangerous roads in this region? Or are we simply bad drivers? Get in
touch with me today on this at my usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look
forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for all the emails. I hope your Valentine’s Day was good and don’t
forget, of course, that although we were sending out Valentine’s Day greetings
yesterday, anytime you want to pass a message on, then you can via the Levy
Letter. And if there’s something you’re organising that you want some publicity
for, then do get in touch and give me the details. You can get in touch with me
anytime on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Humour

Well, Valentine’s Day is over, but it’s no joke, apparently. A good sense of
humour really is the way to a woman’s heart. Men, who have been short-changed
in the looks department, will be mightily reassured by a report just out.
Researchers have discovered that a good sense of humour, or GSOH in the Lonely
Hearts advertisements, really does make a man sexier to women. But the same was
not true for men, who were no more attracted to funny women than to serious
ones. Some funny women intimidate men, which I think we’ve touched on before.
So there you are. All you funny fellas are alright; you’ve got nothing to worry
about!

Pictures

Don’t forget, we’re looking for pictures for our Big Screen and also any
interesting pictures of events that you may have witnessed and have got on
film. Well, get in touch and let me see them. And also have you got any stories
that you think we might be able to tackle on Leave it to Levy, then get in
touch to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Chip and Pin

As you know Chip and Pin from yesterday is now the way to go. Cardholders now
have to enter their four digit codes when making purchases. If you don’t know
your Pin number, then your card may be declined. Well, there’s been plenty
written about it, whether you’re a fan or not. It’s interesting that a lot of
people have written in to tell me this and also a couple of members of staff
told me this as well, that they’ve seen elderly people standing at the Chip and
Pin machine and as they’ve been tapping in their number, they’ve actually been
speaking out their number aloud at the same time. So they’ve been going 5 6 7 8
as they’ve been typing in their number. That’s concerned people that they’re
being too generous with their number. So maybe, it’s worth passing onto people
as a reminder not to mention their number to anyone as you’re typing it into
the machine. Anyway, your views on Chip and Pin, you might like to send me them
in the usual way.

Leo Sayer

Thanks for several emails from people saying they’d like Leo Sayer as a guest
on the programme. Twenty-nine years after his last British number one hit, Leo
is back with a dance remix of his 1977 song, Thunder in my Heart. Never has
anyone deserved it more, apparently, and Leo is thrilled to pieces with his
renaissance. So if you’re a Leo Sayer fan and remember him the first time
around in 1977, then he’s back and is at number one!

Ironing

Of all the jobs that you have to do at home, then ironing is the worst. No, the
worst for me is actually having to put the continental quilt in its cover,
which I find almost impossible to do and it takes me forever. I end up having
to stand on the bed and shake it to the ground. Anyway, there’s news out today
that there’s a new washing machine out that apparently, does away with the
ironing. When it’s finished washing, it actually irons the clothes as well. If
you believe that, then you believe anything! I remember when we had the first
non-iron shirt. They never worked either. Anyway, there’s a new washing machine
out that allegedly irons your clothes as well as washing them. We’ll have to
wait and see on that one. And also, we’ll have to wait and see how much it is
as well! Probably a pretty penny or two!

Art

I’m not one of those people that totally understand art, I don’t think. I see
the pictures of David Hockney and think that a five year old could do just as
well, but maybe that’s being cruel. Well, there’s a new painting. It’s just a
canvas and it’s painted in a purple and blue colour (it’s a solid blue
painting, there’s no picture on it mind) and it’s just been sold for £960 000,
just short of one million pounds. And all it is, is a canvas coloured in blue.
I have to say that I think I could have done just as well.

Davina

They’re all talking about it – the first new chat show on the television for a
long time and it starts tonight. It’s called Davina. The first time we’ve ever
had a female chat show host. Davina is on BBC1 tonight. It will be interesting
to see how that goes. Of course, one of the ex chat show hosts is Michael
Aspel, and I see that Michael is playing the narrator in the Rocky Horror Show,
which is on tour at the moment and coming somewhere, not that far away from us,
shortly. So hopefully, we’ll be able to get Michael Aspel in as a guest on the
programme to talk about that. That’s the role of course, where you have to wear
high heels, stockings and suspenders, which will be interesting to see Michael
Aspel wearing those! Allegedly anyway, that’s what Michael will be doing,
according to the papers.

Levy Letter

Don’t forget, if there’s someone you know, who’s not signed up to the Levy
Letter and they’d like one, then get them to go to either one of the two
addresses at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions through. If
they sign up tonight, then they’ll get their first Levy Letter from tomorrow.

Well, that’s it from me for today. Have a very good day. Join me tonight on
BBC1 at 6.30pm and look out for Thursday’s Levy Letter tomorrow.

And don’t forget, if you’re anywhere near, or can get to Lincoln on Thursday,
then Paul and I will be at the Waterside shopping centre for the Sofa Tour
between 11am and 1pm. I hope to see you there!

Take care, thanks for reading

Peter
