Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

If you live in the Wetwang area, then we’ll have something of special interest
for you tonight and I’ll be talking to Dickie Bird. Also tonight, I’ll be
looking at the complaints made against Humberside Police’s call centres. A
number of you have written in with complaints about their call handling on the
Force’s new 0845 number. I’ll be talking to the Chief Constable, Tim Hollis,
about your concerns. If you want me to put forward any of your questions or
concerns to Tim Hollis, then please email me today and I’ll do my best to put
them to him and get answers for you. Email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] as usual.

Also tonight, do you fancy giving the kiss of life to a sperm whale? Well, I’ll
be talking to someone who’s running a first aid course for sea mammals! With
the recent large number of beached whales on our coastline this year, these
skills could come in handy!

I’m not sure if you’re aware or not, but the new series of The Apprentice
starts tonight on BBC2. One checkout girl from Hull is a contestant in this
competition vying for a chance to work for the entrepreneur, Alan Sugar and
earn a six figure salary! I’ll be talking to the Executive Producer of the
series, Alan Brown, about the task facing Michelle tonight and whether her
tactics so far will keep her in the running. Michelle Dewberry is a former
Sydney Smith High School pupil and is now battling it out against fourteen
other contestants in this new series. Well, were you a pupil at Sydney Smith
and do you remember Michelle? Well, I’d love to hear from you. Do you think
she’s got what it takes to go all the way? Well, email me at the usual address
of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

And of course, I’ll have the rest of the day’s news and Paul will have the
forecast. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Babies

I see that more than half of all babies will soon be born outside of marriage.
More than half – can you believe that? Britain is thought to be only six years
away from the watershed moment when 50% of children will be born to unmarried
mothers. The figures published by the Office for National Statistics show a
record four out of ten babies were born to unmarried mothers in 2004. We’re
only six years away from the moment when more than 50% of babies will be born
to single Mums!

Pictures

Don’t forget, if you’ve got any pictures that you think I should see or stories
that you think would make a good feature for the programme, then do drop me a
line and give me the details. The usual address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you’ve
got a problem for Leave it to Levy, then of course send me the details and
don’t forget to leave me a contact telephone number as well. Pass the word
around that I’m here to help and email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] And remind
anyone, who’s not signed up to the Levy Letter, to get signed up as soon as
possible.

Diana

I can’t remember how I got on to the subject of Bless This House, the TV sitcom
from the 1970s with Sid James and Diana Coupland. I was saying I wasn’t sure
what Diana Coupland was doing these days. I just hadn’t heard about her at all.
Thanks to several people, who got in touch with me. First of all, Sylvia in
North Somercoates says, “I guess she is still with us as she is the Honorary
President of the Shakespeare Hospice. She lives with her family in
Warwickshire. I looked her up on the internet!” So Sylvia, thank you very much
indeed. And also, this one from Steve and he says, “Diana Coupland has been in
Eastenders, in the not too distant past, playing Auntie Maureen. She was also
in a recent episode of Casualty. I hope that helps!” So there you are. A very
good actress, Diana Coupland and very much with us and was recently in
Eastenders apparently. Of course, if I watched Eastenders, I would know that!

Sleep

I’ve been boring you to death with the stories of not being able to sleep just
recently. Well, actually it’s been going on for quite a few years. Thanks for
all the emails with tips for sleep problems. I am, I can tell you, trying every
single one. Just a quickie here from Lesley, she says, “I usually sleep for
three to four hours a night and that was the norm until about ten days ago when
I finally gave in to Sudoko, the number problem puzzle. I go to bed about
twenty minutes before I would normally retire and attack the puzzles. I’m
absolutely hopeless at anything to do with numbers and within five to ten
minutes of picking this up, I am asleep! I was wondering, whether maybe a video
player in the bedroom with some tapes of Paul doing the forecast would perhaps
be a better answer!” Lesley also says, “Paul’s shirt this evening really did
look good. It blended in lovely with the living room walls, which are all
similar to the red you have within the studio. Almost camouflage!
d he was!” Perhaps that’s just wishful thinking that Lesley and you know that!

Men In Their Fifties

Now, we know what men in their fifties are like! Although, some are only just
in their fifties! It used to be that reaching his half century made a man feel
old, but not anymore according to the paper. Today’s fifty something still has
a twinkle in his eye and has a more enjoyable sex life than a man in his
thirties or forties, a survey has revealed. In fact he even rates himself with
the next generation claiming that satisfaction even equals to a twenty year
old! Experts, who questioned more than a thousand volunteers, found that while
their sex drive had reduced with age, the fifty pluses enjoy themselves more
than men in their forties and a lot more than the least satisfied age group,
which are men in their thirties! So there you are. Fifty somethings are more
satisfied than men in their thirties and even more than men in their twenties!

Tickets

Thanks to everyone emailing in wanting tickets for our evening at the BBC next
Tuesday for the Public Accountability Evening, where we discuss Radio
Humberside and Look North and other BBC outlets like the website and Big
Screen. Well, we look forward to seeing everyone there, who’ve got tickets for
next Tuesday night, here at the BBC.

Holiday Home Invasion

I see that the number of Britons, who own a second home abroad has soared
nearly 50% over the last five years. An all time record of nearly 260,000
people now own a foreign property, usually in a sunnier and cheaper country. I
tell you one thing that I notice is, I speak to a number of taxi drivers in
Hull and the number of them, who have got holiday homes abroad is quite high.
Perhaps, there’s quite a lot of money in taxi driving! Did I just say that?
Well, if you have got a holiday home abroad, then your stories and your hints
and advice, whether you think it’s a good thing or not, then they are
gratefully received as usual. If you want to write in on any subject for the
programme or for the Letter, then you know what to do - [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that’s all from me for today. Enjoy your Wednesday afternoon and join me
tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm for tonight’s Look North. Take care and thanks for
reading.

Bye for now

Peter
