Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and that you’re looking forward to the weekend. If you’ve got
something planned, then I hope it goes well.

Just a brief thank you again to all those who read the Levy Letter, who live in
Lincoln and came down to see us yesterday at the Waterside shopping centre.
Loads of people were there and it was great to see you all. And of course,
listen out for the next date of the Sofa Tour!

Also, we’re having an evening here at the BBC on the 28th February. It’s a
chance for you to have your say about BBC programmes, including Look North and
also BBC Radio Humberside. And you can also comment about our websites as well.
So, would you like to come along and take part and meet me, spend an evening
with me and say your bit about what you think about the programme, whether good
or bad? If you’d like to, then all you’ve got to do is send me an email and say
how many tickets you would like and also give me your address as well. So if
you’d like to come, then it’s the evening of the 28th February starting at 7pm.
All you’ve got to do is to email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Say how many tickets
you’d like and also send me your address as well and we’ll get the tickets out
to you. Obviously though, only ask for tickets if you’re sure you can
definitely make it along on the evening of the 28th. And of course, if you’d
like to spread that invitation around to anyone else,!
who’d like to have their say, then get in touch for your tickets. They are
free, but you do have to move fast, because the tickets will go quickly. Email
me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Don’t forget it’s the evening of the 28th February.
I’ll be there and I’ll look forward to having a drink and a chat with you.

Pictures

Thank you very much to those of you who sent in pictures for the Big Screen. We
want some more, especially from the south of the region. And also, I was
mentioning yesterday on the programme about a duck, which has got all caught up
in rubbish that has been thrown into the pond in Queens Gardens. Several people
took pictures of other animals in the same situation like ducks and swans. It’s
great when you send us pictures. You can always send them directly to me here
on the usual email address. And also, if you ever take any footage that you
think might be quite useful for us to see, then send it to me. And yesterday,
you might have seen on the papers on the programme, I had a little picture of a
news-stand, which a gentleman had sent in to me. Again, there was a little
misspelling on it and it gave us a little something for the programme. So we
always use the material if we can. So do get in touch with me at the usual
address. If it’s urgent, then you can ring me anytime and!
just ask for me. The telephone number is 01482 323232.

Brits

You might have seen the Brits on the TV last night. Yorkshire did quite well
really. The Kaiser Chiefs, of course, Best Group, Best British Rock Act, Best
British Live Act and they were from Leeds. And the Arctic Monkeys – they’ve
done very well and are from Yorkshire and they recorded their album in
Lincolnshire. They are the Best Breakthrough Act, so well done to both of them!

Madonna

And I see, talking of music that Madonna has been in the news. It was only a
couple of days back, when she was pictured in the paper doing the splits. She’s
very agile from practising Yoga, and that picture was from her single, Sorry.
Madonna is forty-seven now and I don’t think many forty-seven years olds will
be able to do the splits or be as fit as she is! Well, it’s bound to happen,
but some say it was an accident or an injury waiting to happen. For although
she appeared in top shape for her performance at the Grammy Awards just over a
week ago, Madonna has now had to undergo a hernia operation shortly after the
event. Some would say that they’re not surprised at that. But there you are. It
just goes to show that she is human after all. Hernia operations, actually, are
the most common operations performed on men in the UK. Operations amongst women
are less common at around 50,000 a year.

Headaches

Well, husbands, who thought the familiar complaint about throbbing temples was
simply a bedtime excuse, will need to think again. Women really are more prone
to headaches, a study has found. They are three times more likely to see their
GP about a migraine or headaches than men. And although, women aged forty-five
to fifty-four are more likely to receive treatment than men of the same age,
the rate of GP consultations is highest in women aged fifteen to twenty-four.
So, when a young woman says she’s got a headache, then the chances are that she
has! Women are three times more likely to have a headache than men!

Sleep

As I’ve mentioned before, several times, sleeping is a big issue for me. There
are several articles in the paper this week on the subject of sleep. The sleep
aid industry is now worth billions of pounds a year and is expected to grow
further. Sleep is apparently the new sex, because it’s easier to get a bit of
the other than sleep! Insomnia relief scent inhaler – that’s the new gadget!
Lavender, rosemary, camomile – those are just some of the scents available.
It’s on sale now, the insomnia relief scent inhaler! There’s something for me
to try. Or if you prefer, what about the original sound pillow? It comes with
twin speakers and sings you to sleep! And the list goes on of items you can buy
to help you sleep. Apparently, I’m not the only one with insomnia, but that’s
little consolation. But I suppose, it gives me something to think about in the
middle of the night, lying there thinking that other people can’t sleep as
well. Well, any tips on how to get a good night’s sleep !
 gratefully received!

Well, that’s it from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm for all
the day’s news and Paul will have the forecast. Tonight on the programme, an
inventor from North Ferriby will be showing us his new custom built motorbike
for the disabled and I’ll be talking to the famous inventor, Trevor Baylis,
about what he thinks of the idea. I’ll also be looking at why rabbits are
overrunning the city of Lincoln! The RSPCA in Lincoln want your help on this,
so tune in to find out how you can help with this bunny problem! And do you
remember the daredevil, Graham Boanas, who walked across the river Humber last
summer? Well, I’ll be talking to Graham tonight about his next adventure. So a
busy programme tonight, I hope you can join me on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

And if you know of anyone, who is not signed up to the Levy Letter, but would
like one, then point them in the direction of either of the two addresses at
the bottom of the page, tell them to click on Levy Letter, follow the
instructions through and then they’ll get their first email from me on Monday!

Thanks for reading, take care

Peter
