Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. I’ll
have all the day’s news and Paul will have the forecast as usual.

I’ve got a very special guest tonight! I’ll be talking to the Olympic rower,
Sir Steve Redgrave! He’s flown over from the Winter Olympics and is in the
region today. So I’ll be talking to him tonight. I’ll also be talking to the
Boston family, who were caught up in the Mexican hurricane whilst on holiday.
They’re now campaigning for compensation from their holiday company. I’ll have
more on that story. I’ve also got a Leave it to Levy for you. I need your help
to find budding male models! I’ll be asking a top male model in our region for
some top tips for all you wannabe models out there. Also, as you will have
heard from my previous email, we’ll be looking into the affect the closing of
KIT, Kingston Interactive TV, will have on the digital viewers in Hull. And I
look forward to speaking to anyone, who is available to be filmed this morning.
I’m looking for anyone, who is a regular viewer of KIT and would be available
to be filmed about their thoughts on this decision by Ki!
ngston Communications this morning. You can get me direct, if you’re available
this morning, on 01482 314511. I look forward to hearing from you. So, a busy
programme. I hope you can join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Duvet Covers

You sometimes mention something and then are amazed at the response. I said
that the job that I hate the most and find the most difficult to do at home is
putting the duvet cover on the duvet and it’s prompted quite a few emails with
tips and advice.

This one from Carol Coupland and I’m actually laughing about this as I’m
writing it, because it’s just so funny. Because Carol has written in from
Paris, where she says the weather is overcast and it’s 16.5 degrees Celsius
outside. She’s written from Paris with instructions for me on how to put the
duvet cover on. She says that it’s extremely simple! I won’t go through all the
instructions for you, because by the sounds of it, you all know what to do.
Carol has been in Paris since 1972, but she never forgets the wonderful
Lincolnshire people. So somebody has sat down in Paris and has emailed me about
how to put the duvet cover on! I’m sure I could think of better things to do in
Paris than email me. So thank you Carol very much for that. She also says,
“Please send lots of love to my Auntie Eva Coupland, who’s in Skegness.” So
hello to Auntie Eva!

It’s funny you should say your name is Coupland, because one of those freebie
DVDs that was in the newspaper the other day was an episode of Bless This
House. Do you remember that? With Sid James and the lovely Sally Geeson from
the mid seventies and of course that was with Diana Coupland as well. And don’t
know what has happened to Diana. You never seem to hear about her? I don’t know
if she is still with us or not. I hope somebody has the answer to that one.

Just one more here from Tony D. “Whilst on the subject of changing the duvet
cover, I find grab the top left corner of the duvet, stuff it into the top
right hand corner of the cover, repeat with the top right hand corner. Hold top
right and hold top left of cover and duvet firmly and give it a good shake.
Fasten up the bottom and it’s done!” So I think we should draw a veil over the
subject of duvet covers!

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a photograph or a picture that we can use, then get
in touch. We showed a picture of a deer that somebody had taken last night on
the programme. If you’ve got moving pictures or stills, then do get in touch
with me. You can email me direct on [EMAIL PROTECTED] And if there’s something
that you think would make a good Leave it to Levy, if you’ve got a problem or
an issue at the moment and you’re not sure what the answer is, well get in
touch. Give me the details, tell me the story of your problem and of course
don’t forget to leave a contact telephone number as well. As ever, you can
contact me direct on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Children’s Birthdays

It used to be enough to provide sandwiches and jelly, followed by a game of
Pass the Parcel or Musical Chairs, or at least it was when I was a kid at
least, but how things have changed. The trend towards ever more elaborate
children’s birthday parties have sent the average cost in this country for a
children’s birthday party to £200! Today’s eager-to-please parents feel the
need to hire bouncy castles, stage fancy dress parties or take children to
theme parks and ten pin bowling alleys. I can’t believe that cost! Also parents
shell out huge sums of money for items to put in the party bags for the
children when they leave at the end of the party. The average party at the
moment in this country for children costs £200. I can hardly believe that.

And the average cost of a home has topped the £200,000 mark for the first time
ever. Not in Yorkshire and Humberside though, where the average is only
£153,000, but the average cost of a house in this country has now topped
£200,000 mark for the first time! The average asking price has leapt by more
than £5000 this month. The largest monthly rise for nearly two years and for
the first time in twenty months the price rise has increased in every region of
England and Wales and including of course Yorkshire and Humberside. But in the
grand scheme of things, the North of England is still actually cheaper than
Yorkshire and Humberside. Presumably that includes the Greater Manchester
suburbs. But the average price of a house now is £200,000!

And the headline in one paper today – “Middle Aged People Can Expect To Live To
100!” Of course, I was immediately drawn to this article. Two careers, three
marriages and a seventy-five year mortgage is likely to be the norm. Most
middle aged people today could live to see their one hundredth birthday thanks
to predicted medical advances, a leading biologist has predicted. Already
cholesterol lowering drugs and new cancer medicines have dramatically improved
treatments of some illnesses typically found in old age.

Levy Letter

Still people are signing up to the Levy Letter. New readers are joining all the
time. If there’s someone you know who’s not getting a Levy Letter at the moment
and they would like one, then sign them up or get them to sign up themselves.
Tell them to click on either one of the two addresses at the bottom of the
page, click on Levy Letter and then follow the instructions through. If they do
it today, then they’ll get their first Levy Letter from tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Enjoy your afternoon. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

See you tonight on the programme.

Take care

Peter
