Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope you’ll be
able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm. I’ll have all the day’s news and
Look North will be live in Grantham as a new controversial micro-chipped
wheelie bin is rolled out across South Kesteven. It’s causing a bit of a stink
in our region and I’ll have the full story on that one, including getting your
comments on this new system.

It’s a big night for Hull as the city begins its countdown to the 200th
anniversary of William Wilberforce’s historic anti slavery bill. More on that
later.

I’ll have a report on the remaking of the classic Dambusters film. It looks
like Hollywood is coming back to the region as they plan to film at RAF
Scampton. I’ll have the latest on that tonight.

We’ll be in Stamford as we preview the internationally renowned Burghley Horse
Trials and find out how Tai Chi helped a north east Lincolnshire woman recover
from a diving accident. That’s a wonderful story and I’ll be bringing that to
you tonight on the programme. So I hope you can join me for that and of course
Paul will be with us for the forecast.

Toothbrush

Well, apparently, we are supposed to brush our teeth for two minutes every
morning and every evening. Now an amazing invention has just come out.
Scientists have invented a remarkable toothbrush, which lets you listen to pop
songs whilst you scrub away by transmitting sound waves through your teeth and
jaw bone to your ear! The device is called Tooth Tunes and costs £7.00. And it
plays for exactly two minutes, which is the amount of time that dentists
recommend you should devote to brushing every morning and night. Initially it’s
being targeted at children, but it could be marketed at adults as well for the
so-called Ipod generation of adults. A single piece of music is stored in a
microchip in the brush’s handle. When a button is pushed, it starts playing. A
mini computer transports the music through the bristles, then into the teeth,
through the teeth into the jawbone and then into the ear. The users hear a
cross between the sound of music coming out of a stereo and the so!
und of one humming to oneself. Onlookers are only aware of a buzzing noise,
similar to an electric toothbrush. So there you are. That’s the £7.00
toothbrush that will play a song and that will be out soon. Some people have
suggested a few songs that they’d like to hear cover versions of – Drilling Me
Softly by Roberta Plaque, Filling Groovy by Whiter Shade of Pale, Bristle While
You Work and the list goes on! You’ve Lost That Loving Filling is quite a good
one too and Every Fresh Breath That You Take! And that toothbrush will be going
on sale soon.

Money

I was saying a few days ago that men need to earn about £50,000 a year before
women consider them wealthy and successful. One in ten women have even higher
expectations and are looking for a salary of more than £100,000 before they are
really impressed. I wonder how many women are actually going to find a man, who
earns that much! Men are less demanding. They regard women, who earn £42,000 as
wealthy and successful. I bet they do. 45% of women said that a healthy bank
balance was their top priority. I mentioned that a few days back. Loads of
people have written in to say that it’s a load of rubbish and that we should be
so grateful for finding somebody, who loves us regardless of how much money
they earn. Lots of you felt quite strongly about that. So thanks very much for
all of your emails.

Pictures

If you’ve got a picture that you think we could use on the programme, then send
it to me at the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] And don’t forget if you’ve
got a problem or an issue that you think we could help you with for Leave it to
Levy, then drop me a line. For Leave it to Levy problems, then I would also
appreciate a contact telephone number as well, so that we can get in touch with
you. So email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Wilberforce

Well, today is a big day. As I mentioned earlier in the Letter, we’ll be doing
some coverage on it tonight. The celebrations begin for the 200th anniversary
next year of the abolition of slavery in this country. Tributes of course will
be going to Hull born William Wilberforce. The statue of Wilberforce will be
illuminated from today. And also to coincide with today’s launch, there is a
book out by Richard Adams of Watership Down fame. I was reading it over the
weekend. It’s called Daniel. Daniel was a slave and it was a fascinating read.
I’ll be talking to Richard tonight on the programme. I can highly recommend
that book. Also thanks to several people, who have been in touch with me, to
say that they’ve already got copies of the new book about Richard Whiteley. I
don’t know how you’ve got hold of it, because I don’t think it’s published yet.
It’s by Kathryn Apanowicz and is all about Richard. Lots of you are saying it’s
a very good read. So thank you for letting me know ab!
out that. I’m looking forward to buying the book shortly and reading about
Richard.

Music

As you know, from time to time, we have musicians on the programme. We have
people, who are local and often they are singer songwriters or in a band.
Earlier in the week, Monday I think it was, The Favours were on the programme.
They’ve done very well and have won the vote on the Raw Talent show on BBC
Radio Humberside to represent our region at the BBC Electric Proms in October.
The Favours consist of two fellas and a lady - Sara, who we spoke to on the
programme. They have just a fabulous sound and many people have written in to
ask where they can get hold of their music. In fact, I think they’re playing in
Beverley tonight. The Favours have a great sound and we’ll be following their
career with interest. They’ll be back, I’m sure, to play for us later in the
year. If you are a musician and if you can play or sing and if you think some
performance time on the programme would help your career, then drop me a line
and tell me about yourself. And we’ll see if we can get you o!
 n the programme.

Well, that's it from me for today. Enjoy the sunshine. I think it’s going to be
a nice day. Join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Bye for now,

Peter
