Hello it’s Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope your weekend was good whatever you had planned, hope
you’re ready for the start of another week. Join me tonight, 6.30pm BBC1 for
all the day’s news including the East Yorkshire family clearing up after sewage
flooded their home. It seems a plumbing job went wrong and the waste from the
whole street ended up in their house. We’ll have the pictures of Colin the
rescued kitten with no back paws and as Burghley Horse Trials come to an end
we’ll have all the spills and thrills from the weekend. Paul will have the
forecast as usual.

Shopping

Well shopping it seems has changed considerably. The hot time now is 11pm to
1am, not in the shop but at home on the computer. More people are doing their
internet shopping, buy buy buy, as they’re calling it between 11 and 1 on their
computer, that is the peak hours for internet shopping according to a report
just out. Are you shopping at midnight on the computer? Probably not. Neither
am I.

Allergies

I see that a vaccine will soon end the misery of millions of allergy sufferers
according to scientists. Patients will be able to take a simple course of drops
or tablets to immunise their bodies against potentially fatal allergic
reactions. Scientists say they are close to perfecting the treatment which
could be ready for use by hay fever and asthma sufferers within three years. An
end to allergies is in sight. That’s extremely good news.

I don’t know whether you regard this as good news but living to be 150 in the
future will be the norm. Medical advances could help us reach the ripe-old age
of 150. A leading academic has told a conference that life begins at 100. This
is unthinkable today. In the future 100 will seem pretty young. He said that
stem-call therapy would allow people to disguise the signs of ageing by
regaining lost hair and removing wrinkles in the skin regularly living to the
age of 150.

School dinners

Jamie Oliver’s rant over school dinners continues. This time he’s had a pop at
some people in Lincolnshire it has to be said but he’s made an attack on
parents who fill their children’s lunch boxes with junk food saying he was
bored with being polite on the issue. He warned they risked their children
becoming overweight and under achievers. He even claimed that those who gave
youngsters caffeine-based energy drinks might as well have been giving them
cocaine. It was a foul-mouthed tirade. He said that 75% of packed lunches are
made up of inappropriate snacks, fizzy drinks, crisps and sweets. He said that
eating chips and processed food in unhealthy school dinners was the quickest
way to heart disease. So he certainly gets the publicity whenever he has a new
series or a new book out.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a photograph you think I should see or you have a
problem or an issue you think we can deal with on Leave it to Levy then give me
the details and give me a contact number as well to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or drop
me a line to Queen's Court, Queen's Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH.

Charlotte Church

I mentioned Charlotte Church’s programme last week. Several people have written
in to say it was an absolute load of tosh. I have to say I did see a bit of it
on Friday night and it wasn’t really my cup of tea but each to their own. I
think Charlotte is still a very natural and talented performer on her own. I
don’t really think she needs to use swear words and sing songs with swear words
in to make her name. Thanks for all the comments on that. Also the other
programme that we’ve talked about is The History of Light Entertainment. It’s
been on BBC2 on Saturday nights for the last few weeks. It’s been an excellent
series and quite a few people have written in to say how much they’ve enjoyed
it and is there a chance it’ll be repeated? I’m sure it will and if they don’t
repeat it, I’m sure they’ll bring it out on DVD. An excellent series, The
History of Light Entertainment. Of course the other thing we’ve been enjoying
on Saturday nights and I watched it on Saturday evening is!
the Maria programme, trying to find a Maria for the West End production of
The Sound of Music. I said on week one I thought Connie would win it, there was
no competition and with just one more week left she’s still in it. My money is
still on her.

Well, that's it from me for today, have a very good Monday afternoon. Join me
tonight BBC1, 6.30pm.

Peter
