Hi there! It’s Caroline Davis here with the Letter today. Peter can’t be with
us tonight, but I’ll be here on BBC One at half past six, straight after the
national news, to keep you updated as to what’s happening where you live. I’ll
have the rundown of all the day’s news, including a special report on the
record number of homeless children living in temporary accommodation in
Lincolnshire. New statistics out today have revealed that children in our area
are trapped in hostels and B&Bs for months, even years on end, and that this is
ruining their health, education and future prospects. I’ll have their story
tonight on the programme.

We'll have a Leave it to Levy special as one group of residents come to us to
ask for help. We get so many emails from you all asking for help with problems
or issues that you face. These residents got in touch with us to say that their
lives are being made a misery with yobs. Find out if Look North were able to
help. And if you want to ask us to help you with a problem, then get in touch!
Email Look North on [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put us to the test!

Also tonight, find out what Hull City manager, Phil Parkinson, had to say after
last night's trouncing over Colchester. Plus what three things might you need
to become a miller at Skidby windmill? I’ll be answering that one tonight. I’ll
have the full story on the explosive row taking place in Newtoft and we'll be
meeting the farmer, who says his cows are a happier herd for listening to
Elgar! I presume I’ll be interviewing the farmer and not the cows, but we’ll
see! So all that tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm. I hope you’ll be there.

Last night, our reporter, Vicky Johnson, was looking at the growing problem of
shoplifting and crime in our newsagents and small shops in the area. A group of
shopkeepers had got in touch with us and told us that they felt that they were
struggling against a rising tide of violence and theft and that they felt
abandoned by the Police. Some of the shop staff that we spoke to were having to
put up with physical attacks on almost a weekly basis and many small businesses
were threatened with closure as they struggled to cope with the cost of
replacing stolen stock and goods. We spoke to one of Humberside Police’s senior
officers about this one and put their concerns to him and we asked for your
comments on this. Well, we had such a busy programme that we couldn’t fit in
your messages, but I’ll read a couple out here. You certainly had some strong
views!

A concerned father phoned our Look North hotline last night and left a message.
His daughter works in a newsagents and often works night shifts. He tells us,
“The other day, she rang me and said that a case of beer had been thrown at her
and that she’d rung the police and they couldn’t come along for three days.
Then, I was driving through Keyingham and there was a forty thousand pound
police Volvo parked on the side of the road with a camera in the back of it, as
usual.”

A text message from John agrees with that messages and reads, “Humberside
Police will send the cavalry to the football, or man every street for speeding
motorists, but when it comes to the things that really matter to the man on the
street, then they go missing every time.”

Another phone message here about Look North blurring out the perpetrators’
faces on the CCTV footage – “Why, when you show the crimes being committed, do
you cover up their faces? Because they are stealing, why shouldn’t we see who
they are? Why shouldn’t the parents and their relations see what they’re doing?
It’s very much about protecting the guilty and not helping the innocent
shopkeeper.”

And a message about our interview with Chief Superintendent Sean White from
Humberside Police – “It’s pathetic that a senior policeman can come on
television and be a politician, because basically that’s all he is.”

So some heated comments there from you. We had so many emails, texts and phone
messages from you all. So keep them coming in and email in today if you’ve got
anything you want to tell us. We love to hear your comments about the programme
or if anything funny has happened to you recently. Also, so many of our
stories, like our Leave it to Levy report tonight, has been generated by you
getting in touch with us. So if you’ve got a story and you think Look North
should know about it and should put it on the television, then get in touch
with us. You can always ring the BBC and ask to be put through to the newsroom.
The number is 01482 323232. Or if it’s not an urgent news story, then email us
on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Enjoy your day, and I hope you can join me tonight for Look North on BBC One at
half past six!

Caroline
