Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to another week here on the Levy Letter and
of course Look North. Join me for the programme tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news, plus the forecast from Paul.

Also on tonight's programme, we'll have the latest on the Superbug outbreak at
Lincoln County Hospital, which has already claimed one life. I’ll have the full
story on that.

The Derby Day fixtures have been announced and Hull FC and Hull KR face each
other for the first time in the top flight for eighteen years. More on that
later.

We'll be asking you if your Christmas lights are safe. Although many of us
won’t be thinking of Christmas just yet and certainly won’t have put up any
Christmas lights, some people are so eager to get into the festive spirit.
We'll be at a house in Hull, already decorated for Christmas, and we’ll be
testing out their electricals!

We'll be meeting the man from Withernsea, who made James Bond fit for the big
screen, we'll be on the skids as we go out with the RAF in Lincoln and tune in
tonight to find out why seals are thriving in our county! All that tonight on
BBC One at 6.30pm.

Weekend

Whatever you had planned at the weekend, then I hope it went very well indeed.
The weather was a bit lousy on Saturday, but I met a lot of people in the
Prospect Centre in Hull. For those of you, who came along, then thank you very
much indeed. It was good to meet you and talk to you. But then on Sunday – what
a beautiful day! I spent the morning shopping in Hull. What a fabulous
atmosphere with the market on there and the carousel in the centre of the city.
If you haven’t been just recently, then it’s well worth a visit just at the
moment. If you live away from Hull, then it was a great atmosphere and I got a
bit of shopping done as well!

Christmas

Well, as Christmas comes closer all the festivities get into full swing. The
restaurants are full, the shops are busy and there’s plenty of events coming up
in the next couple of weeks. If you’re involved in one of them and it’s for
charity, then let me know. Give me the details and I’ll give you a plug in the
Levy Letter one day. And just a reminder that a week on Thursday, there’ll be
the Christmas Carol Service for the Lord Mayor of Hull. There’ll be plenty of
people there. It’s at the Street Life museum. I’ve plugged it a couple of
times. The tickets are on sale at the moment and all the money is going to the
Lord Mayor’s appeal. I’ll be reading one of the lessons. Blair Jacobs from BBC
Radio Humberside will be the Master of Ceremonies and Liam Mower will be
reading one of the lessons as well. That’s Thursday 7th December. Get your
tickets now. If you’re coming along, then I look forward to seeing you after
the Carol Service for a mince pie and a drink, which is included!
in the price of your ticket.

Oily Fish

Fish oil could be a new weapon to combat depression, according to experts. It’s
already thought that it could boost the brain power and keeps hearts healthy,
but combined with a nutritious diet, daily Omega 3 fish oil supplements could
improve your mood. One Australian dietician has said that “we’ve found evidence
of the potential therapeutic benefits of Omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in
the diet, which may contribute to an eventual recovery in the long term.” So to
beat those moody blues, fish oil is the thing that you need!

Books

I mentioned some of the great books that are around at the moment. I was
shopping around yesterday in Hull and looking at some of them. There are some
great books in the shops. There are just a couple of things to mention. One of
the books that was serialised in the paper at the weekend, is “Whatever
Happened to Simon Dean?” Simon was a chat show host on the telly in the sixties
and early seventies. Can you maybe remember that? Suddenly he had this
self-destruct button and just ruined his career and that was it, he was gone
forever. Now there’s a book that’s a biography of Simon Dean. That’s his story
written by Richard Wiseman. I’ve only read a serialisation, but it looks a very
good read. If you remember those days, like I do, then “Whatever Happened to
Simon Dean?” is just out.

Talking of whatever happened to… whatever happened to the man, who was called
the ‘next Cliff Richard’? Well, apparently, he didn’t want to be the next Cliff
Richard. He wanted to be the next Liam Gallagher. That’s Darren Day. Darren,
depending on which paper you read, has been engaged up to five times and has
run away each time. He’s apparently a commitment-phobe and that’s including his
most recent girlfriend, Suzanne Shaw. He’s now with somebody new and that’s
Stephanie Dooley and he’s got a young baby. He was hailed as the new Cliff
Richard, but Darren Day was determined to follow a very different path. He’s
blown three million pounds on cocaine. I don’t know how you do that! And he’s
abandoned a string of celebrity fiancées. I don’t know – he’s somebody else
with a self-destruct button. He’s now living in Yorkshire, in a rented house in
Barnsley, even though he had the world at his fingertips only a few weeks back.
That’s the story of Darren Day and I was reading about !
that at the weekend. I’ve interviewed him several times and he seems like a
really nice chap, but as I say, he’s got that self-destruct button, which is
landing him in trouble.

Winter

Last week on Look North, you may remember we had a real weatherman on the
programme!! That was when Ian McCaskill joined me and Paul on the sofa. They’ve
got a new book out as well called Frozen In Time. It’s about when winters were
really winters and snow covered the ground for weeks on end. Well, we want to
hear from you if you remember the winter of 1947, which is arguably the worst
winter in living memory. Please get in touch with your stories and memories.
I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch and write me a little note – [EMAIL
PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a picture, or a view, that you think we would like
to see on the programme, then send it to me. Also, if you’ve got a problem or
an issue that you think we might be able to deal with on the programme, then
drop me a line. If you send me an email, then no one else sees it, just me –
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Enjoy your Monday afternoon. Join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Bye for now.
