Hello it's Peter here, welcome to Monday's Levy Letter. I hope your day's going
well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six for all
the day's news. On the programme tonight we'll be looking at the report
suggesting motorists in Hull suffer more car thefts than anywhere else in the
country. That doesn't sound good does it? Well be sure to catch our report as
we look into it further.

We'll be asking what now for Hull City Manager Phil Parkinson after his club's
latest defeat. He was supposed to take the club to the next level, but he seems
to be struggling a bit. I'm sure all you City fans will be watching this with
interest.

We're on the road with the emergency services to find out whether roads or
motorists are to blame for the rising numbers of road accidents. This is bound
to get a response on our emails, texts, and answer phone. We'll be reading all
your comments as usual.

We'll be looking at the future of Boston United football club. They hear today
whether they'll get the ground move to solve their financial crisis.

And I meet the East Yorkshire man who's made it his mission to visit more than
150 Scottish islands. That's quite a mission! Well those islands are lovely,
but I don't know if I fancy it at this time of year. We'll have more on that
and all the rest of the day's news and stories later on the programme at half
past six on BBC One. Of course Paul will be here with the weather as well.

Weekend

Whatever you did at the weekend, I hope it went very well indeed. There are
lots of things planned for Christmas, but I think most of them went off
alright, despite the horrendous weather, and the wind yesterday especially.
It's the start of another week, and of course if there's anything that's coming
up that is for charity that you'd like a plug for then let me know and we'll
try to fit it in the Levy Letter.
Don't forget the Lord Mayor's Carol service on Thursday this week at the Street
Life Museum in Hull. The tickets are on sale now at £15, and if you fancy
coming along, then get your tickets in advance or just turn up at the Street
Life Museum at 7.30 on Thursday night.

Shopping

If you're shopping this week, then high street shops are slashing prices in
guerrilla sales amid fears that shops may suffer their worst Christmas for 25
years. Big names have announced discounts, timed sales, and special offers in
an earlier than usual bid to woo customers. Retail analysts are predicting a
rash of further aggressive price cuts in the run up to the 25th of December.
It's reckoned that some shops could have their worst Christmas for 25 years,
but it's good news for the rest of us, and more bargains coming up.

Britain's shoppers are today expected to spend a record £183 million online,
the biggest sales day yet on the internet. So the big shopping day is today
apparently, Monday.
Last week America staged its own cyber Monday with takings estimated at £310
million pounds as the first day after Thanksgiving holiday kicked off the
Christmas rush. Today, Britain is expected to reach a more modest but
nevertheless significant retail milestone. Even traditional high street stores
are expected to cash in by brightening up their online presence. Internet
shopping is the way of the future, and everybody's at it. Either way, if you're
a shopper, it's good news at the moment. You don't seem to be able to go far
wrong with reductions on prices of all sorts.

Letter

Don't forget if there's somebody you know who's not signed up to the letter and
you think they'd like one, then point them in the direction of one of the links
at the bottom of the page, click on Levy Letter, and sign up for your first
letter.

Unusual Presents

Well cosmetic surgery has become the latest Christmas present fad with one of
Britain's biggest providers reporting a 35% rise in sales of gift vouchers for
procedures such as tooth whitening, botox, breast enlargement, and nose jobs.
Clinics report that the most noticeable increase is in women giving the
vouchers to their husbands or boyfriends. One of Britain's largest cosmetic
surgery groups has sold 915 vouchers as Christmas gifts this year, compared
with 650 at the same time last year. Teeth whitening is proving popular with
both men and women. Can you just imagine giving your girlfriend or wife a
cosmetic surgery gift voucher for Christmas? I don't think I'd have the nerve
to do that to be honest.

Lights

I was in Kirk Ella and West Ella last night, and the residents up there
certainly know how to do the outside of their houses up with Christmas lights.
They're looking splendid, have they started early? It seems to me it's slightly
early. But they were looking good anyway, and if you're particularly proud of
your display of lights, or if you have a view of Christmas lights, do get in
touch and let me know. Drop me a line on this, or indeed anything else you want
to comment on, at [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. If you're a
Hull City supporter, I'd be keen to hear your views on the plight of the club
at the moment as well. Give me your thoughts and views at the usual address.

Well that's it from me, have a very good day, and join me tonight on BBC One at
half past six. Bye for now.

Peter
