Hello it's Peter here, welcome to Wednesday's Levy Letter, hope your day's
going well, hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six
for all the day's news and stories. Coming up on the programme tonight we have
a special report on the increase in children expelled from Lincolnshire schools
for drugs and drink offences. I'm sure you'll have lots to say on this subject,
so do get in touch by email, phone, or text message. The details will be on the
programme.

We'll have the latest on efforts to save a swan shot in the head. It's an
unusual crime, and we'll be bringing you an update later.

We'll be visiting the nativity school play with a difference. I'll give you a
clue - if you know sign language you'll be able to watch some of this report
with the sound down.

We'll also be finding out why the upmarket town of Pocklington is in uproar
today over sex wars.

And we'll meet one of the country's biggest producers of Poinsettia flowers as
we approach their busiest time of year.

As usual, we'll also have the detailed weather forecast from Paul. That's all
coming up at half past six on BBC One.

Pictures

We had a picture last night on the show of a house illuminated with Christmas
Lights. Unusual pictures as well as scenic views are welcome on the programme,
send them to me, and if you've got a particularly good one then we might put it
on the programme. The address as usual, and for any problems you might have
that you think we could tackle is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RAF

RAF Officers have used a teapot to plug a hole in their ageing aircraft during
a training flight. The crew of the Nimrod jammed the aluminium teapot into an 8
inch hole after one of the plane's hatches failed to close at 8,000 ft, causing
the cabin to depressurise. The Nimrod had taken off from its base in Cornwall
and was on its way to Kinloss in Morayshire when the problem occurred. The RAF
officials insist that the crew was never at risk, and the teapot was used just
simply to reduce the noise from cold air rushing in. The aircraft is able to
operate un-pressurised below 10,000 ft. A spokesman said it had no safety
implications, and really is a storm in a teapot, can you believe. That's RAF
crew use a tea pot to plug a hole in their Nimrod, incredible.

Books

I've mentioned just recently how many good books there are out for Christmas.
There are several I've got my eye on. If you're trying to lose weight at the
moment, the one you definitely want to read is "The Duvet Diet - Sleep Yourself
Thin" and this is just published at a mere £9.99. Forget those faddy diets,
never mind about rushing to the gym. A new book claims the key to losing weight
is just getting a good night's rest. Can you sleep yourself slim? Well whatever
you might think, I'm sure the book will do extremely well.

Christmas Shows

Pantomime season is nearly here. In the next week or so, I'll have some details
of some of the pantomimes in our part of the world. The Chuckle Brothers are
starring in Hull. They're already in town. They're getting ready and doing
their rehearsals. It's always a big pantomime in Hull. We wish the Chuckle
Brothers well. Just a reminder as well that on Thursday, it's the annual Lord
Mayor's Carol Service at the Street Life museum. If you could make it along,
then I look forward to seeing you there.

Fruit And Veg

Eating fruit and vegetables daily halves the chance of miscarriage, according
to research. The study of thousands of pregnant women revealed that those, who
included fruit and veg regularly in their diet, were 46% less likely to
miscarry. Chocolate, vitamin tablets, dairy products, fish and white meat also
increase the odds of a successful pregnancy. Underweight women, however, were
70% more likely to miscarry. The researchers and their findings highlighted the
importance of a healthy balanced diet during pregnancy. Fruit and veg can halve
the chances of miscarriage according to new research just out.

Charlotte

Well she may be a celebrity millionairess, but Charlotte Church is not immune
from a dressing down from council officials. The singer and chat show host
received a ticking off after dumping a dozen bin bags outside of her house in
Cardiff on the wrong day. She got a fifteen minute dressing down at the home
she shares with the Welsh Rugby star Gavin Henson. Ms Church was told to
separate ordinary waste from recyclables, and ordered to place the bags in the
wheelie bins, and reminded of the correct day for collection. That's all fair
enough, the bit I don't understand is how one couple managed to have a dozen
bin bags full of rubbish! I can just imagine the reception we'd get at Victoria
Dock if we put a dozen bin bags out. Anyway, Charlotte's been told off and will
now have to separate her recyclables and put the stuff out on the right day.

Talking of celebrities, I see that Ant and Dec, the golden boys of ITV, are set
to see their joint earnings from the channel leap to £8 million a year, as
their contract comes up for renewal. The two presenters are the most popular
light entertainment figures on television. They jointly earn £5 million a year
on their current deal, which is expected to expire early next year. They can't
touch anything without it turning to gold, but after their current deal
finishes, they're open to offers from rival broadcasters like the BBC and Sky,
but ITV are expected to keep them locked into their contracts and consequently
get a huge pay rise.

Well that's it from me today. Have a very good afternoon and join me tonight at
6.30. Spread the word about the Levy Letter, and if there's anyone you know who
is not signed up and you think they would like one then point them in the
direction of one of the two addresses at the bottom of the page and tell them
to sign up and they'll get their first daily Levy Letter the day after. That's
it from me, have a good day, bye.

Peter
