Hello It’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter, hope your day’s
going well and you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at six thirty.
There will be all the day’s news and stories as usual.
We'll be investigating concerns that Boston United could be teetering on the
edge of oblivion. It’ll be sad for Boston and football lovers everywhere if the
worst happens and Boston United can’t find a way to financial safety, and if
you have any comments on this or any other stories then we’ll give out the
contact details on the programme.

We'll meet the region's unsung sporting hero after a career stretching back
half a century. He is a local legend for Sunday footballers, and we’ll be
revealing more on the programme tonight.

Tonight we’ll also meet the couple who say they’re having to demolish their own
house because it’s crumbling into the sea.

And here at last. Grimsby's outdoor ice rink finally opens after being thwarted
by the mild weather. Well that mild weather might not continue for much longer,
I’ll have more on that later.

Of course the weekend forecast will be coming from Paul, that’s all on the
programme tonight on BBC One at half past Six.

Carols

Thanks to everyone who turned out last night and supported the Lord Mayor’s
charity at his annual carol service held at the Street Life Museum. Thanks to
all the guests who came a long and did readings as well. There were plenty of
people there last night, and I hope you enjoyed it if you could make it along.

Weather

Paul will have the detailed forecast tonight, and of course the story yesterday
was the terrible tornado in London, and the damage it did. It’s amazing that it
wasn’t worse than it turned out. One of the national papers is saying that
Britain is facing a terrible winter, the worst for decades. I’ll have to ask
Paul about this. Apparently we’ll have killer winds of up to a hundred miles an
hour in this month, and two months of the worst blizzards for many years. The
weather will gather force and build up to a crescendo in the final days of
2006. That would be worrying if it wasn’t in the Daily Express, but the daily
express seem to be obsessed with severe weather stories, and they’ve had quite
a few this year, which Paul always manages to rubbish. Anyway, we’ll ask him
about it later.

Lulu

Well the amazing Lulu is approaching her 60th birthday, Lulu could be forgiven
for tiring of explaining how she looks so good. She looks a lot, lot younger
than her years. The secret apparently varies from yoga to clean living, lots of
water, and facials, end even falling for much younger men. She is however
indebted to one particular complexion booster. Like countless other
celebrities, Lulu is a self-confessed botox veteran. Questioned at a party this
week about the treatment, she replied “I’ve been there, done that, got the
t-shirt”.
The Scottish singer said she wouldn’t balk at having plastic surgery if she
felt it was necessary. She looks amazing, she’s 58, and she’s had botox, but my
word she doesn’t half look good for her years. She looks younger in the picture
from 2006 than she did in 2004!

Vacancy

There is a vacancy for a tea maker for the Queen, if you fancy the job. It
sounds pretty glamorous, making tea for the Queen, there is a catch however,
for anyone who aspires to fill the vacant post of “Coffee room assistant” will
of course need to know their way around a tea pot and strainer, but they’ll
also need a firm grasp of dog handling. Rarely does the Queen take afternoon
tea without her beloved corgis at her side. According to palace servants,
they’re rather fond of getting in the way of people trying to serve tea. It
sounds like a nice cosy job looking after the coffee room and making sure
everything is in place for Her Majesty, according to one servant, but the
corgis’ bite is worse than their bark and they can be a pretty bad tempered
breed. So if you’re applying for the job of tea maker to the Queen, you will
work in Buckingham Palace, but you’ll have to put up with half a dozen corgis,
or however many it is.

Christmas

We always have a Christmas tree at Look North. I’m not sure what day we’re
putting our tree up, but I wouldn’t mind betting it’ll be sooner rather than
later because Christmas might only be 18 days away, but you’d never actually
know it from watching BBC Breakfast television. Viewers have noticed that its
ITV rival GMTV, have their Christmas tree up, but watch Dermot Murnaghan and
Kate Silverton, and they’re noticeably short of Christmas cheer. There have
been emails, texts and phone calls demanding to know where its tinsel and tree
were, asking if it’s another example of the corporation’s political
correctness. Yesterday they scored a victory when the BBC announced that its
decorations, originally planned to be installed on December 18th will now go up
on this Monday. The programme editor said “I guess this represents a victory
for the viewer. Some of our emailers and texters were polite, and some were
concerned, and some just forgot about the season of good will in their c!
 hoice of words”.
There you are, if you watch BBC breakfast news, their tree will be up on
Monday. Will ours? I don’t know, I think next Monday is maybe a bit soon so the
Monday after that would probably be about right, but what do I know?

Charity

I just want to mention one Look North viewer going beyond the call of duty to
raise money for charity. Steve Andrews from the Hildreds Centre in Skegness
emailed in to say “On Friday 15th of December at 12 pm I will be dressing up as
Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and having my legs waxed for charity. It will be
in aid of St Barnabus Hospice for terminally ill patients in Sutton on Sea in
Lincolnshire. The idea is that customers can donate £1 and rip a strip off me.
This will be done in the specially created Wizard of Oz grotto that we have
made in the centre.”
Well good luck to Steve, and if you’re in the area on that day then make sure
you pop in to help raise money for that, even though come the end of the day
Steve might wish you hadn’t!

Books

Don’t forget if you’ve got some books that you particularly want to recommend
to readers of the Levy Letter then let me know. I’m just starting to read
another autobiography, this one is called Hello, and it’s by Leslie Phillips.
I’m sure it’ll be a very good read from a wonderful actor. I had the pleasure
of interviewing him a couple of years ago so I’m looking forward to reading
this one. So any books you highly recommend, then let me know, but please don’t
say Frozen in Time by Paul Hudson and Ian McCaskill, because I already know
about it.

Have a very good weekend, and don’t forget if you do talk to anyone who’s not
signed up to the Levy Letter and they’d like one, then point them in the
direction of the Levy Letter, the address is at the bottom of the page, and get
them to sign up over the weekend. They’ll get their first Levy Letter on Monday.
Have a nice weekend, bye for now.

Peter
