Hello It’s Peter here and welcome to the start of another week on the Levy
Letter. I hope you can join me tonight on BBC One at half past six, we’ll have
all the day’s news and stories from our region. On the programme tonight we’ll
meet the man told he's too fat to have an operation. He’s fifteen stone, and
it’s all down to new rules from the Lincolnshire PCT. We’ll have more tonight.

Police arrest a man after an international credit card scam centred on a petrol
station in Hull. We’ll have the latest on this trans-national fraud scheme
potentially affecting a large number of victims.

We’ll have the council that spent a quarter of a million pounds on a new piece
of art work.

We’ll also meet an international rugby player in Lincolnshire. She’ll be
telling us about her love for the game. Yes, I did say “she”.

And find out how you could win a family weekend in London courtesy of a new BBC
campaign. That’s all coming up tonight, and of course the weather forecast
comes from Paul as usual.

What a fabulous weekend it was, well Saturday not so good, but yesterday was a
beautiful day. It has a feel of Spring about it, and it didn’t get dark until
half past four. The worst is over and longer days are on the way, let’s keep
out fingers crossed anyway. It’s certainly been unbelievably mild this weekend
for the middle of January.

Television

Thanks for the emails on a variety of TV subjects. I had many on Big Brother.
As you gather, I’m not actually watching it, but I gather Leo Sayer has left
the house. He was taking a stand against oppression apparently because, as far
as I can work out, they wouldn’t give him any clean underpants, and he refused
to wash his own dirty smalls on the television in case people saw him, and also
the sinks were filthy. There we are, that’s the latest on the TV front. If,
like me, you’re not watching it, then it will mean nothing to you. Is it over
yet? I don’t know, I haven’t seen one episode.

Mother

The average mother will prepare 45,990 meals, and spend almost three years of
her life cooking for the family, according to the latest figures. She will
spend 17 days of every year cooking, about an hour each day, a survey has
found. Fussy eaters, different tastes, and vegetarian diets all increase the
amount of time women spend in the kitchen. This is all very sexist, isn’t it?
But this is all according to a new report just out.

Emails

Don’t forget, if you want to drop me a line on any subject at all, or if you’ve
got a problem or a story you think would make a good one for Look North then
give me the details, drop me a line, and send it to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look to
hearing from you.
If you’ve got a picture you want to show us, you can also send that to the same
address. I look forward to hearing from you. If you’re involved with a charity
event, or something that involves a plug then give me the details and we’ll get
you a plug in the letter as well.

Garlic

Now a television programme that described garlic as an aphrodisiac last week
has sparked a 32% increase in sales. Funnily enough I saw this, it was the
Fiona Bruce programme which was on the other night on BBC Two called “The Truth
About Food”. In one of the programmes, it asked whether garlic is a natural
alternative to Viagra. In another one, presenter Fiona Bruce asked people to
eat four cloves of raw garlic a day to pep up their sex life. Seemingly, it
works, and since that went out on Thursday night, there’s been an increase in
sales. But you have to eat it raw, either chop it up, or put it over a salad or
something. It doesn’t work if you actually cook it. But raw garlic is the
natural Viagra.

Dancing On Ice

It was a huge hit last time around, and of course the Queen of the Ice Gaynor
Faye from Yorkshire did very well indeed, there was also Bonny Langford. Well
the programme is coming back on BBC One. I don’t know all the contestants, but
certainly a couple of them, there’s Neil “Dr” Fox, and also Ulrika Jonsson,
who’s apparently turning to sexy outfits to help her win, and is taking the
whole thing very seriously, surprise surprise.
Dancing on Ice is shortly back on our TVs.
Well that’s it for today, have a very good afternoon, and join me for tonight’s
Look North at half past six. Don’t forget, if there’s anyone you know that’s
not getting a Levy Letter and you think they’d like one, then point them in the
direction of one of the two links at the bottom of the page, tell them to click
on there, sign up, and they’ll get their first Levy Letter from tomorrow. Take
care, and see you tonight.

Peter
