Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One as usual
at half past six. I’ll have all the day’s news. Plus, I'll have the latest on
the woman from Beverley, who's gone to the European Court of Human Rights to
fight for the right to have a child with her husband, who's in prison. I’ll
have her story tonight.

Plus we'll be finding out more about the supermarket in Hull, which has closed
its petrol station after cars started breaking down after using its petrol
pumps. Have you been affected by this? Well get in touch with us today if you
have!

Also tonight, we'll have the final part in our series, which is profiling the
work of the air ambulance in our region. Tonight, we'll be with the team as
they deal with their most distressing and challenging callout so far.

And we'll be announcing the best fish and chip shop in our region! Find out
where it is tonight! Could it be your local chippie? All that tonight on Look
North. I hope you can join us!

Beer

Supermarkets are being branded reckless for selling lager at lower prices than
water. Apparently, there’s a bit of a bargain booze war going on at the moment.
At least one chain of a well-known supermarket is offering beer at 54p a pint.
A 750ml bottle of the best known bottled water sells for the equivalent of 57p
a pint. So water is more expensive than beer. That’s their story.

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects on issues we’ve discussed on the
programme. Keep them coming in. However, if there’s something that you think we
should be talking about on the programme, then give me the details and let me
know. And of course tune in to see if we cover it for you. It’s the usual email
address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Milk

For years, scientists have been telling us that tea is good for the heart, but
adding milk to that refreshing cuppa could destroy all the health benefits,
research has suggested. Tests show that while tea helped improve blood flow by
increasing the ability of the arteries to relax and expand, milk completely
counteracts the effect. The findings suggested that milk proteins interacted
with the tea to decrease the concentration of anti-oxidants, which protect
against heart disease. So tea is good for you, but only if you have it without
the milk. Doesn’t sound very appetising, does it? Although, there’s quite a few
people, especially in this building, that don’t take milk!

What’s On

Don’t forget, I was saying that if you’re involved in something and you’d like
a plug for it in the Levy Letter, then let me know. There’s a letter here from
Hessle from Chris Giles. He says, “Saints and Sinners Drama Group, based at All
Saints church in Hessle are putting on Cinderella, the proceeds of which will
be given to the Hull Homeless and Rootless project. This will be on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, 18th 19th and 20th January at 7.30pm with a matinee on the
Saturday at 2.30pm and it’s all in the church hall.” So there you are. If you
can support the Saints and Sinners drama group with their production of
Cinderella, then there are the details!

There’s another email here. This one comes from Sonja Cox. I was talking about
the Forsythe Saga the other day and about the fact that the Forsythe Saga is
celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year. She says, “I don’t know if my
memory is letting me down, but I seem to recall that the Forsythe Saga was
shown on a Sunday night. The reason behind this is because I had friends, who
were planning to get married and the vicar of the chosen church wouldn’t marry
them unless they attended regularly on several Sundays prior to their banns
being read. They used to get to the church and then after the service was
finished would run like crazy home so that they didn’t miss it!” It was a way
of life for many of us in this country forty years ago!

Telephone

Well, we like inventions in the Levy Letter. It’s already proving itself to be
a best seller overseas. A new telephone that could really make a big difference
to people’s lives was unveiled yesterday. As the name implies the noisy phone
rings at levels that is unrivalled by any other telephone available in the UK.
It delivers a seriously loud ring tone volume of up to a massive 83DB, which
makes it particularly ideal for the hard of hearing as well as for those
working in workshops, factories, garages or in environments where there is a
great deal of background noise. In addition to the increased level of ringing
volume, the phone also has a large visible flashing light. Many elderly and
disabled people, confined to their homes for much of the time, find their
telephone the only real link to friends and family. The noisy phone ensures
that they’ll never miss another call. So if you’re hard of hearing or if you’d
just like a loud ring tone, then it’ll ring at 83 decibels! I w!
onder what the neighbours will think of that!

Pictures

Another fabulous photograph on the programme last night. Last night was the
turn of Mablethorpe and their beach. I’ve got happy memories of last summer and
switching on the illuminations in Mablethorpe with Paul. Last night’s picture
was of motorbiking on the beach. If you’ve got a picture that you’re
particularly proud of, then let me see it. Send it in and look out for it on
the show. Send it to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Don’t forget, we’re also looking for ideas. We want to do the whole of Look
North from someone’s home one night. It could be you, but we need somebody with
a good story to tell. Perhaps there are a couple of people in the family with
some interesting stories. Maybe you live in an interesting house. We need
stories to make it work. Give me the details and tell me about your family or
your house or your garden. Or if there’s someone you know, who fits the bill,
then let them know and get them to write in. Again, get in touch with me direct
at the usual email address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good afternoon. Join me tonight
for the programme as usual at half past six. Look out for your Levy Letter
again tomorrow round about the same time.

Bye for now,

Peter
