Hello it’s Peter here, welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We’ll have all the day’s news with more on the shock announcement that the
Birds Eye factory in Hull is to close. We'll be asking why later on the
programme. This is the latest company to close in our area, and I’m sure a lot
of you will have comments on this, or be affected by it. Please do get in
touch, we’ll have the contact details later on the programme.

We'll be speaking to the woman responsible for education in Hull about why the
city is yet again at the bottom of the tables. The city has a poor educational
record, and we’ll be looking for answers.

We'll be meeting the couple with an urgent warning for dog owners after their
German Shepherd was poisoned by a bag or raisins. Lots of people don’t know
that raisins can be deadly to dogs. We’ll be trying to spread the word with our
report tonight.

We'll have the story of a man who's claimed thousands of pounds of bank charges
back. We'll be showing you how you can do the same. We had Martin Lewis on the
show the other day lifting the lid on these bank charges, and we’ve had a huge
response, obviously there are a lot of us that have been hit by these charges,
so don’t miss this one and tell your friends to watch as well.

And we've had exclusive access to Hull KR’s pre season training camp in Spain.
We'll have a special report from inside the camp as they build up to the new
season.

Of course Paul will be here with the forecast.

Emails

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects, keep them coming in. If you
want to drop me a line of course on any subject, or if you’ve got any questions

Earring

You might have seen this story on the TV last night in the news, but it’s a
great story so I thought I’d report it anyway in case you missed it. Way back
in 1934, Marlene Dietrich did a special visit to Blackpool to try out a brand
new roller coaster. The ride at the time was the Big Dipper. She went on the
Big Dipper, and lost an earring. She wrote to the owners asking, but they
couldn’t find it. Well now they’ve just scraped a lake clear of water and mud
in preparation for a new ride which is opening in the summer, and what do you
know, they found the earring seventy years later. This Big Dipper ride, which
many of us will have been on, goes over a bit of water, and while they were
searching the water they also found three sets of false teeth, a glass eye, a
bedraggled toupee, three dolls, a bra, and eighty five pounds in small change.
But the most unusual of course was the earring belonging to Marlene Dietrich.

Golf

>From the useless facts of the day – research being done by the School of
>Sports and Health scientists at Exeter University, who are obviously flat out.
>A happy home life can make you better at golf, according to the experts.
>Researchers found the emotional support a golfer receives off the course is
>directly liked to the quality of his or her performance on it. They measured
>the level of support that 117 amateur male golfers received, and those who had
>a better home life were better golfers. Well there we are, you couldn’t make
>it up.

Botox

Well everybody’s been talking about it for the last three or four years, and
the person that gets more column inches in the news about how she looks is
Carol Vorderman. She apparently looks a lot, lot younger than her 46 years.
Well she’s known for her immaculate appearance and her strict eating regime,
but she has announced that she would consider botox and 2007 might be the year.
She’s also considering a facial peel. I have to say I’m not quite sure what a
facial peel is, but she’s considering one of those as well. She started
reinventing herself back in 2000 as a sexy mother of two when she launched her
28 day Detox Diet. Can you believe that was actually seven years ago now?
Anyway, Carol Vorderman is ready for botox. Send me your views on botox to the
usual address.

Kate

Kate Middleton celebrated her 25th birthday earlier this week, and of course
the news papers have been full of pictures of her, and also the fact that
there’s been much controversy over the amount of photographs of her, more than
20 photographers and five TV crews were waiting outside of her flat on
Wednesday this week when it was her birthday. It might have been here birthday,
she might be able to afford more, but she showed that she’d down to earth when
Prince William’s long term girlfriend went to work on her birthday wearing a
Top Shop dress for £40, rather than an outfit produced by her employer, who’s a
rival high street chain that makes dresses costing more. It’s silenced her
critics who sometimes say she wears clothes that are too old and frumpy for her
age. I have to say I’ve not noticed that, but you can’t help feeling sorry for
the girl at the moment. Everywhere she goes, there are people shouting and
screaming to get pictures of her. That’s Kate Middleton who’s c!
elebrating her 25th birthday. All the rumours are that there might be a
wedding or an engagement round about June time.

Gillian

Thanks for the emails reminding me that Gillian McKeith is back on the TV. I
missed her first programme this week, which is a terrible error on my part, but
she is back , and I’ve also been reading about one Hailey Davidson, who’s just
gone on an all-carrot diet in an attempt to turn her skin orange? Why would
anybody want to do that? Hailey, who’s 19, is going to eat carrots for
breakfast, lunch and dinner for 30 days. Were she in East Yorkshire or
Lincolnshire we would be having her on the programme. She’s in Newcastle Upon
Tyne, lucky for her.

Well that’s it for me today, have a very good afternoon, and join me tonight on
BBC One at half past six, bye for now.

Peter
