Hello it’s Peter here, welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and you’ll be able to join me for all the day’s news and the weather
of course from Paul on BBC One at half past six tonight. On the programme
tonight you’ll find out why there are fresh calls for victims of coastal
erosion to get compensation. Our coastline does suffer from quite severe
erosion in places, perhaps you’re affected, well be sure to catch this tonight.

We'll have the latest on the murder of mother of three Theresa Bennett. The
trial has begun of the man accused of killing her.

We'll also have the latest on the Hull City manager's position. I’m sure lots
of eyes in our region will be on the latest drama at the KC Stadium. We’ll keep
you up to date with all the latest developments.

We’ll be finding out why the Bishop of Lincoln is fighting flat development
plans at Brayford Pool in Lincoln.

We'll speak to one Lincolnshire cheese producer who's up in arms at an
advertising ban on children’s TV. They’ve banned advertising of cheese
products. Well if you think advertising to children is a good or a bad thing,
we’ll be waiting for your calls, texts, and emails as ever.

And we'll tell you how you can win tickets to the hit musical Chicago. I hear
it’s a fantastic show, and if you’re a fan of the show and musicals, be sure to
catch that later. That’s all on Look North tonight on BBC One at six thirty as
usual.

Weather

The Daily Express has a real thing for weather stories. Britain is set to
shiver in a minus twelve degrees arctic blast. Deep freeze will last for a
week. Minus twelve is some temperature. Of course, the Daily Express as I say
loves to do weather stories, and Paul normally shoots it down in flames. Well
we’ll see what he’s got to say about that one later on.

Pets

More than a third of Britain’s cat’s and dogs – six million pets – are
overweight according to startling figures just out. 8 in 10 vets now run
special clinics for overweight animals, can you believe that? The aim is to
educate owners and help them to get their pets in shape. The pet fat clubs are
likely to be oversubscribed in January as 31% of owners admitted that their
pets put on weight over Christmas, so there we are, a third of Britain’s cats
and dogs are overweight, and the only people to blame are us.

Leave it to Levy

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a problem or an issue that you think we might be
able to tackle on Leave it to Levy then give me the details, the problem, and
your telephone number as well, and drop me a line and we’ll see what we can do.
If there’s something we can do on the programme, or a story we should know
about then the email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] We were talking on the
programme last night about family trees and going to the new Treasure House in
Beverley to get your family tree traced. There’s an offer for anybody in the
East Riding who’d like to put their name forward win an opportunity to have
some help on your family tree. If you’re interested, then you can put your name
forward by dropping me a line as soon as possible, giving me your name and
telephone number as well.

Drink

Men with high blood pressure can cut their risk of heart attacks with a daily
tipple, according to scientists. Traditionally, doctors advised sufferers to
increase exercise and cut consumption of fat to reduce the likelihood of a
heart attack, stroke, or kidney damage, but researchers found that one or two
alcoholic drinks such as single measures of spirits or glasses of wine can have
the same effect. That’s good news for all, isn’t it? High blood pressure? Well
take two drinks a day and it’s official, for those who want an excuse.

Quiet

Well I don’t know if anyone else has noticed how quiet it is on the roads at
the moment. It seems very different, and it’s not just the fact that the
schools are not back yet. Figures show that record numbers of workers all over
the country, not just in our region are taking a full fortnight off over
Christmas and the New Year. Instead of joining the traditional return to work
yesterday, they’re extending their holidays until next week. Other employee
will be tempted to call in sick to give themselves extra time off. Employers
have warned that the extended breaks could damage the economy, but many people
have taken this week off and won’t be returning to work until next Monday at
the earliest. It’s alright for some!

Pictures

If you’ve got any pictures of scenic views over the Christmas break, we show
pictures every night. Last night on the programme we showed a gorgeous sunset
at North Landing in Flamborough. If you’ve got something you think we should
see, then send it to me at the usual address and we’ll put it on the programme.
And of course if there’s anyone you know who’s not signed up to the Levy Letter
then fly the flag for me, tell them about it and tell them to sign up. All
you’ve got to do is go to www.bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire, or www.bbc.co.uk/humber,
click on Levy Letter, follow the instructions through, and of course you’ve
done it already so you know, and then they’ll get their daily Levy Letter from
the following day. Well that’s it from me today. Join me tonight on BBC One at
six thirty and look out for your Levy Letter tomorrow, bye for now.

Peter
