Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news and Paul will have the forecast.

On tonight's programme, I'll have the latest on the renewed efforts to get the
Humber Bridge debt written off and the tolls reduced. This has been a very long
running campaign and I know it has a lot of support. Today a delegation has
gone to Westminster to put their case to government ministers. I’ll have the
latest on this tonight.

Also on the programme, we'll find out more about the potential terror threat to
Easington gas terminal. Armed patrols are now protecting the site from today.
I’ll be getting the full story on why they are so concerned about this gas
terminal in our region.

And should ancient trees be given the same protection as ancient buildings?
Well, we'll meet the campaigners, who want to see trees, like the Belton oak,
protected for future generations. This old oak tree started life as a sapling
when Henry the Eighth was on the throne! Can you believe that? And we’ll be
speaking to the campaigners who think it should be protected.

And this isn’t for the squeamish! We'll have a stretchy man from Grimsby on the
show. His unique ability to stretch his skin has earned him a place on the tour
with the Circus of Horrors. I’ll be meeting him tonight! All that on BBC One at
6.30pm. I hope you can join me then.

Emails

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects. Keep them coming in. If you’re
involved with something for charity and you’d like a plug, then get in touch.
And if you’re involved with an amateur production that’s coming up, then do let
me know. Or if you’ve got a problem that you think I might be able to tackle on
Leave it to Levy, then the address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Don’t forget, if you
have any pictures and photographs that you’re particularly proud of that we can
show on the Big Screen, half way through the programme, then it’s the same
address to send it to. If it’s a good one, then look out for it on the
programme in the next few weeks.

Chewing Gum

It sounds like a dream come true, doesn’t it? - an appetite suppressing chewing
gum, which will stop the soaring obesity epidemic and could save millions of
lives. It’s being developed by British scientists. They’ve identified a drug
based on a natural hormone, which mimics the body’s feeling for response. This
will be seen as a huge step towards curbing the spiralling scourge of obesity,
which threatens to cripple the NHS and researchers have fast tracked the
development of the drug. It’s an anti-appetite suppressing chewing gum and
could be on sale in the not too distant future. It follows on from our story
last night with the gentleman, who needed a knee operation and because of his
Body Mass Index he had been refused. Any stories like that, or if there’s a
story that you think we should know about, then of course get in touch and let
me know.

Australian Breakfast

This is a date for your diaries. I went last year and had a great time meeting
you all. It’s the Great Australian Breakfast in Lincoln on Sunday 28th January.
It’s at the Lawns in Lincoln, up at the top of the hill near the Castle, so
it’s a lovely setting. Presenters from Radio Lincolnshire will be there and I
will be as well. So pop along on the morning of Sunday 28th January for the
Great Australian Breakfast. It’s for lots of very worthy causes and charities
in Lincolnshire, so I look forward to seeing you there!

January

If you’re finding yourself waking up regularly at the moment in the middle of
the night, well, you’re far from alone. January is the most sleepless month of
the year. 3am is the time when real life stresses are most likely to rise to
the surface in your subconscious, turning dreams into nightmares and waking us
up. One out of five adults regularly experience anxiety hour in the middle of
the night, waking up to worry about finances, family issues, stress and work.
As a result, a predicted 49% of sleep-starved Britons are liable to throw a
sickie at work later in the day. So if you’re waking up in bed at 3am, worrying
about all sorts, then you’re not alone! It seems half the country are doing the
same. The good news is that January is the worst month of the year and it does
get easier! And we’re already at 16th of January, so not long to go now! And if
you look at the clock at about twenty-past four, then there is still a little
bit of light out there. Just think, just before!
Christmas, it was dark at quarter to four. So we are in fact getting there
and summer will be here in the not too distant future, albeit slowly!

Weight

I was talking about that chewing gum earlier. I see the latest craze to get fit
is not going to the gym or going running, but it’s the traditional game of hula
hoops! I’ve not seen hula hoops since I was a kid, but the revival is being
promoted by a big campaign at the moment and also many people are trying it on
the TV. It is the latest craze and it’s great for the hips! You’ll shed pounds,
and get fit and look sexier, according to Beyonce, who is heavily into hula
hoops apparently. So all you need is a hula hoop and they are dirt cheap!

Well, that's it from me for today. Just a reminder that if you know someone,
who’s not signed up for a Levy Letter and you think they would like one, then
point them in the direction of either one of the two addresses at the bottom of
the page. Tell them to click on there, sign up and they’ll then get their first
daily email from me the following day.

Thanks for reading. Have a very good day and I’ll see you for Look North on BBC
One at 6.30pm.

Bye for now,

Peter
