Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to the start of another week here on Look
North and the Levy Letter. Join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm for all the
day’s news including getting the latest information on the decision by Hull
City Council whether or not to go ahead with the incinerator at Saltend. I know
a lot of you have concerns about this and we’ve looked at the issue of burning
our waste on Look North in the past. So tune in tonight to find out the latest
on this decision.

Also tonight, we’ll have the first in our special series looking at the
wonderful work of the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance. We’ve been given exclusive
access to showcase the work of this wonderful team.

Plus I'll be meeting the twenty-four stone man, who's described himself as
having one foot in the grave. We'll find out how this Grimsby man is walking
his way to health. A wonderful story, so I hope you can join me for that.

Find out tonight who Hull City will face in the next round of the FA cup
provided they get through their rematch after the draw at the weekend! More on
that later. And you are seeing double! We'll be at the school in Bassingham,
which is filled with twins. 10% of its pupils are twins! Unbelievable isn’t it?
And find out how a bottle of beer could be worth a £2000 camper van. We'll be
meeting the man, who, after a series of swaps, has finally got the vehicle of
his dreams. All that tonight on BBC One.

House Prices

I was talking about house prices on Friday in the Letter. It’s always a subject
that gets a big response. This one comes from Daphne in Kings Lynn, who says,
“I know this subject is one that is always in your letter and I just wanted to
say that the more prices rise, then the worse it is getting for first time
buyers. Here in Norfolk it is getting harder for young people to get onto the
housing ladder with people from far and away buying holiday homes. A lot of
young people, who live in Norfolk, cannot afford to buy a house in the place
where they grow up. I heard that a house on the East Coast is being sold to
someone, who will only live in it for one month of the year when they come down
on holiday. Something must be done as people’s wages are not going up by the
same rate as house prices and first time buyers need to get on the housing
ladder.” As you know, it’s expected that house prices will go up by 15% this
year!

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a photograph or a picture that you’re particularly
proud of, then let me take a look. Halfway through the programme, every night
on Look North, we show one on the screen and we’d like to show yours. If it’s
good, then send it to me. Also if you’ve got a problem or an issue or something
that you think we could deal with on the programme, then drop me a line to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you and look forward to
sorting out your problems in one of our future Leave it to Levys. Drop me a
line on any subject of course and I’ll get it straight away.

Selina Scott

Do you remember in the early days of breakfast television, she was on our TV
every morning? And then she did a few other programmes and she went to work in
America on the TV. Selina Scott! Then ten years ago, she dropped out all
together and became a farmer and successful businesswoman. She farmed up on the
Yorkshire Dales, but now she’s back on the television for the first time in ten
years, herding her sheep and talking about the countryside. Selina Scott is now
fifty-five, but when you see her picture, she does look pretty incredible.
Selina had shocked fans when she quit her one million pound a year job as an
anchor woman for CBS news channel in America in 1996. She’s gone on to become a
farmer in the Yorkshire Dales and is now back on our screens on ITV in a
programme called ‘Tales From The Country’.

4x4s

I briefly mentioned this last week. There’s been a big response on this one.
Thank you very much indeed for all of the emails. I was saying that the owners
of 4x4s have always regarded themselves as very safe drivers. And we’ve always
regarded them as safe as well. The drivers of so-called Chelsea Tractors have
now been accused of being unsafe drivers as well as arrogant and sure of
themselves. Scientists, who studied drivers by using motorways, found those in
4x4s were more likely to sit with just one hand on top of the wheel as they
race along. They concluded that because the drivers are in larger and taller
vehicles, they believe they’re safer and so are inclined to take more risks.
This flies in the face of claims by some 4x4 drivers that they’re safer,
because of their high vantage point, which allows them to see further. Well,
thanks to everybody, including Miriam and also John, who both write in with
strong emails saying that the poor 4x4 drivers have the finger point!
ed at them the whole time by other people. Well as a small 4x4 driver, I know
that we do get a fair amount of stick, but I suppose if we choose to drive
them, then we can expect it! So thanks for the emails on that subject. Anything
else, then keep it coming in and let me know what you think.

Also if you’ve got an idea for a guest or a story that you think we should be
doing on the programme, then give me the details and we might be able to cover
that one as well on the show.

Weather

Of course, Paul will have the forecast tonight in detail at half past six, but
if we’re to believe what we read on the front page of one of the tabloid
newspapers at the weekend, then we’re in for a torrential battering with gales
and allsorts. It’ll be the worst we’ve seen for a long time during the middle
and latter part of this week. But I have been told, because I’ve made jokes
about this before, that the tabloid newspapers apparently sell a lot more
copies if they put stories about the weather on the front pages. That’s what
they’ve told the Met Office anyway. And that’s because we love stories about
the weather apparently! So we’ll find out if there’s any truth in that story
that appeared at the weekend tonight when I chat with Paul.

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good afternoon and join me
tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm for the first Look North of the week. And if
there's someone you know, who’s not signed up to receive the daily Levy Letter,
then point them in the direction of either one of the two addresses at the
bottom of the page.

Also, if you know anyone involved in a charity production or event or fete or
gala or whatever and you’d like a plug, then give me the details. As long as
it’s for charity, then let me know about it.

See you tonight, take care,

Peter
