Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's news including the anger at images on Youtube showing
a motorcycle travelling at almost 200 miles per hour on Lincolnshire's roads.

We'll have the results of a major survey commissioned by the BBC looking at the
health service in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. It’s our Big Check up, and we’ll
be lifting the lid on what you think about the state of our health services.

We had a fantastic response on our story last week about the potentially
dangerous sport of Parkour or Free running in our region. I'll be reading some
of your comments on the show.

And we'll be joined by the manager of newly promoted Scunthorpe United to ask
what it means for the town .It’s great news of course for sport in our region.

And of course Paul will have the forecast as usual.

Weekend

What a weekend in every sense. The weather was stunning wasn’t it? Both days
were absolutely beautiful. I know some parts of the region had a little bit
more cloud than others but I was in Hull for the whole of the weekend and it
was just stunning. I was sitting yesterday down by the marina and it was
beautiful. And of course it was a big sporting weekend, and what a weekend as
well. We salute Scunthorpe of course and there was the Grand National too. We
had a sweepstake here and I was lucky enough to pull the winning horse on
Friday to win the sweep, which was good news. Anyway, whatever you did at the
weekend, I hope it went very well indeed.

Website

Don’t forget the brand new BBC Look North website is looking extremely good.
We’ve had a lot of positive emails in about that. If you want to watch the
programme again or if you get home late and you can’t see the programme at half
past six you can always watch it on the web, and also if there’s any one
particular story that you want to see or you want to see again, then of course
go to the website and there’s plenty more information there including detailed
weather forecasts as well. The address is www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull.

Today

Well ten years ago today Stelios launched his famous airline Easyjet, which has
of course been the subject of the TV programme Airline over the last few years.
It’s exactly ten years ago today that they launched his website. That was of
course a major turning point for all websites and cheap airlines. Many people
hadn’t risked typing their bank details into cyberspace, but ten years ago
today was when Stelios started with his Easyjet website. Now of course we’re
all familiar with booking things on the web, but that was a great leap of
faith, and for many people – me included – their first experience of buying
anything over the internet was buying a cheap airline ticket. So of course we
salute him, and he is of course Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

Gas man

Can you believe this? Well yes I can, because I did it one day last week but
gave up. Britons spend more than one billion pounds worth of days of work each
year waiting for deliveries or repair men, according to a new survey. The
average worker lost 1.3 days of work last year waiting for that ring on the
doorbell from the gas man, electrical engineer or delivery driver. 13.5 million
days across the whole working population. Over a working lifetime this means
the average employee uses 62 days off or three years worth of annual leave just
waiting for the repair man or the gas man to come to the door. Frightening
figures aren’t they?

Parking

A few weeks back we had a very lively conversation about Sunday parking charges
in Hull. You can park free in Leeds, you can park free in Manchester, but you
have to pay to park in Hull. Well now there’s been a list of the most expensive
places to park in the country and also the cheapest places to park. Some of the
cheapest were over in Stockport, Cheshire, which is a posh area. Places like
Cheadle only charge 20p for two hours parking. Some of the most expensive
places? Well Westminster is £7.99, Heathrow £7.02, most of them are in London,
although Bowness on Windermere is £3.84 and Manchester £3.68 for two hours
parking. So there we are, the subject of parking is really getting everyone
going at the moment. And also the discrepancy, how can it cost 20p to park for
two hours in Cheadle and then go into Manchester and it costs £3.68? How do the
prices compare with those in Hull? Well if you regularly pay, I’d like your
thoughts on that.
I’m not reading any more out, but thanks for the emails on the subject of
banking and bank charges. It’s a very emotive issue. I know lost of people are
following that advice that we gave on the programme a few weeks back where you
can get a form online. We did an interview with Martin Lewis the financial
expert. You can get a form online and claim back your bank charges. I’m still
getting emails about that. There is a great amount of anger aimed at many of
the banks at the moment. But thank you for all your emails on that.

If you’ve got a story that you think we should know about or you think we
should do on the programme, or a problem or an issue you think we should tackle
on the programme then drop ma a line, give me the details and also give me a
contact telephone number as well. If you want to email in, it’s [EMAIL
PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.

Well that’s it from me today, have a very good Monday afternoon and join me
tonight on BBC One at half past six as usual. Bye for now.

Peter
