Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and I hope you’re looking forward to the weekend if you’ve got
something planned or organised. I hope it goes very well indeed. We’ve got
quite a few events on this weekend, and of course the big one. If you’re into
sweepstakes then the very best of luck if you’re having a little flutter on the
Grand National being run at Aintree in Liverpool. And the week after is the
London Marathon. Hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past
six. We'll have all the day's news with an investigation into the growing
extreme sport of Parkour after criticism from local authorities. Have you ever
wanted to hurl yourself over rooftops and skip over walls? Well that’s what
this sport is all about.

In our series The Big Checkup we investigate the life and times of the NHS in
our region, looking at the people who work for it, and the people who need it.
We’ll have a number of films on this subject on the programme in the near
future, so watch out for that.

Skegness is bucking the trend of seaside resorts in decline with news of a new
multi million pound investment at Fantasy Island. That’s some good news for our
region.

We’re at Glanford Park on the eve of a historic match for Scunthorpe United
which could see them in the second tier of football for the first time in
almost 50 years.

And we'll meet the East Yorkshire stable manager who is working at his 40th
Grand National, yet he's never seen a race! Now if you want to find out why,
watch the programme.

And of course we’ll have the all important weather forecast which is looking
very good for the weekend from Paul. That’s tonight at half past six on BBC One
as usual.

Baftas

I see the Bafta nominations are out for 2007. The much sought after comedy
performance award is a really tough run thing this year. Dawn French from the
Vicar of Dibley is up against Liz Smith from the Royal Family. Liz of course
was born in our part of the world, and those two are up against Stephen
Merchant and Ricky Gervais for Extras. Stephen Merchant of course wrote extras
with Ricky Gervais and starred in it as well. So they’re up against each other.
The Bafta nominations are out, and they’re coming up in the next few weeks.

Champagne

Now most celebrated restaurants are charging diners well over the odds for
champagne according to researchers. A study has found that a bottle of
non-vintage Bollinger which cost about £34 on the high street can be marked up
to about £90 by some restaurants. And the price can vary hugely depending on
where you eat according to the food and drink writer Martin Isarc. It seems
that champagne in one particular restaurant, at Great Milton in Oxfordshire,
would cost you £90.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’re out this weekend and you take a picture that you’re
particularly proud of that you think we should show on the programme, all
you’ve got to do is send it to me , either a hard copy in the post at the usual
address at Queen’s Court in Hull, or email it to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Don’t
forget of course that if you’ve got a problem of an issue that you think we
might be able to tackle on the programme then do get in touch.

Airline

Airlines are starting up all the time, but the latest one is offering flights
from London to New York for as little as £129. That includes tax and also
entertainment, meals, and all charges. That is incredible isn’t it? London to
New York for £129. I often try to fly down to Newquay in Cornwall, and I can
tell you, you’d very rarely find a flight at that amount of money. That’s just
to go to Newquay. But you can fly to New York for £129.

Marriage

A quarter of married people wish they’d never tied the knot, and more than one
in ten had doubts as they walked up the aisle according to a new survey. I
can’t believe this. A third admit they didn’t marry for love but got hitched so
that they could have children, buy a house, or simply receive lots of presents.
A survey of 4000 people found that 15% of husbands and wives had last minute
doubts about marriage. Can you believe that? More than one in ten had doubts as
they walked up the aisle. That’s actually frightening, isn’t it? And a quarter
of married people wished they’d never tied the knot. I’m sure you’ve got a view
on that one, if you have then do get in touch at the usual address [EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Website

This address is the one to remember, www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. That’s the
address to go to the brand new Look North website. On there you’ll find all
sorts of interesting articles of course, and if you ever miss an edition of the
programme because you’re home late then you can watch the latest edition on the
website, and if there’s one particular story you want to watch, well now you
can watch all of them individually. There’s plenty more to find out about,
including the latest forecast as well. That’s the brand new Look North website,
give it a visit if you’ve got time. And do keep coming back as there are new
features and articles coming in the future. That’s www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull
and that will take you to our brand new revamped website.

Well that’s all from me on Friday’s Levy Letter. Have a very good weekend and
don’t forget to join me on BBC One at half past six tonight, and look out for
your Levy Letter again on Monday. If there’s anyone you know that’s not signed
up to the Levy Letter and they’d like one, then get them to go to that website,
and they can find a special icon there, click on that and they can register for
their daily and free of course Levy Letter from me, every day starting from
Monday.

Bye for now

Peter
