Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to today’s Levy Letter. I hope your Thursday's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's news and stories from our region as always, and Paul
will have the detailed weather forecast. It’s at the usual time on BBC One at
half past six.

Website

Well if you’ve not been to the Look North website just recently then I urge you
to go. It’s looking good, the address is www.bbc.co.uk/looknorth. You can look
at all the different stories that you’ve seen the previous night. If there’s
one that you want to find out more about then you can just click on the story
and watch it again. And if you ever get home late, you might want to watch it
back later in the evening. Well the Look North website has a watch again
facility so you can watch back the whole programme or just the particular story
that you want. There’s also a detailed local weather forecast, and also of
course details of lots of other things going on around our region. That’s the
BBC Look North Website. You can now watch the programme wherever you are,
whenever you are. If you’ve got friends or relatives in another part of the
country or even abroad and they want to log on, they can see the most recent
programme. Get them to do it by going to the website.

Garden

Well what is it outside in the garden or around that annoys you most? Most
people would probably be say the neighbours. Well, they’re supposed to sooth
listeners and add an air of tranquillity to the garden, but for most, the
gentle tinkle of wind chimes achieves the opposite effect. A survey has named
them the most hated garden accessory, more likely to irritate the neighbours
than anything else. In a poll, giant trampolines are another one. Hot tubs,
solar lights too. I don’t think solar lights can be very offensive can they?
Also fairy lights can all be a source of friction between neighbours. Barbecues
of course are in there as well. I’m sure gnomes are in there too.
The biggest issue is wind chimes, apparently we hate them. They irritate people
more than anything else.

Life On Mars

Thanks for all the emails saying how much they enjoyed Life On Mars, and are
there going to be any more. There aren’t actually going to be any more, but
there will be a sort of spin-off series which is being talked about. But Life
On Mars was a huge hit, and it went out with a bang on Tuesday night. Nearly 8
million viewers tuned in to find out whether DI Sam Tyler, played by John Simm
was in a coma, mad, or really had travelled back in time.
Life On Mars faced tough competition with two English teams in thrilling
Champions League matches, but with nearly 2 million more viewers at it’s peak,
Life On Mars was the most watched TV show that night.
Well done to everyone who was involved in Life On Mars. The complete series two
is out next Monday on DVD, if you’re interested. This spin off series is going
to be on the way shortly. I know it’s been a huge hit.

Bad Tempered

Well Britain is becoming increasingly over crowded, fragmented, and bad
tempered according to government officials. They portray a crammed country with
people hemmed in ever closer together amid rising levels of anti-social
behaviour and growing discontent with every day life.
It sounds a jolly place to live doesn’t it? The country’s population has grown
by nearly 3 million in just 15 years. It makes you wonder why we stay doesn’t
it? We’re all becoming over crowded and bad tempered according to new research
which is just out.

Fish

I mentioned yesterday that the sales of crab have soared thanks to celebrity
chef and Padstow resident Rick Stein. Well now I see that sales of squid have
soared to an all time high as well as Britons experiment with more unusual sea
food. Demand is so great that it’s even overtaken the traditional cod in some
fish mongers. The calamari craze has been helped by celebrity chefs such as
Rick Stein as well. Another factor is concern over dwindling stocks of more
common fish. Apparently squid is what we are eating, and the headline is “We
are all barmy for calamari”.
I have to say I’m not quite sure whether I like squid or not. I think I’d had
some on a pizza, I’m not entirely sure. Anyway, it’s doing well. If you have
views on that or indeed anything else then drop me a line to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Don’t forget, if you’ve got a story or an issue that you think we should be
covering on the programme then drop me a line, give me the details and we’ll
see if we can cover it on the programme one night. If it’s a leave it to Levy,
give me a contact telephone number as well in case we need to get in touch.
Send it to the same address and it’s the same for photos as well.

Enjoy your afternoon, join me tonight as ever on BBC One at half past six for
Thursday’s Look North. I’ll see you then, bye for now.

Peter
