Hello, its Peter here with the last Levy Letter of the week. The suns shining for now, hopefully itll continue into the weekend, but well see what Paul has to say later with the forecast. Coming up on Look North today we investigate the true flood damage in Hull, are the numbers as high as the council says? This is bound to get a big response I think, so dont miss this on the programme tonight.
We'll have the continuing reaction to our story on the man released from prison to play football for Boston United. More of this in the letter as well, its really got people talking. We examine the lack of Sunday shoppers in Hull, and ask are high parking charges putting people off? Its been a topic of discussion ever since higher prices were introduced, and are the prices going to fall? Well find out. The Young Humberside Magician of the year will be in the studio to dazzle me with a few tricks hopefully. We've got a sneak preview of an auction sale of postcards showing the 1920 Lincoln Floods. And we're out with the farmers harvesting a world class crop of Borage, there are fields of the purple crop around our region, and if youve ever wondered what it is, youll find out tonight. As I just mentioned, the big story on Look North yesterday was of course the man released from prison to play football for Boston United. The prison authorities say its rehabilitation, but lots of our viewers said it was a disgrace. Amongst the angry emails and messages we received was this one from Ros in Boston, How can Boston United stoop so low as to employ a person who could kill an innocent horse? Cash machines dont cry out in pain and are insured but to stand and stab a horse and feel no compassion is beyond belief and that man ...no animal ...will be playing football in front of very impressionable children. I hope they boo him off the field. Its an age old debate of course, whether prison is to punish or to rehabilitate, and we had this message from Nick, My opinion is that it is better for a prisoner to be released (in this case) to play football and do something useful with their life, rather than be released to a future with no prospect of work. Hopefully he will have paid the price for his abhorrent crime against the horses and will have learnt the difference between right and wrong. So a heated debate going on there, what do you think? If you want to comment on any story we have on Look North and maybe have it read out on air then you can email us on [EMAIL PROTECTED], and we give out our telephone numbers and text lines on the programme so keep a pen and paper handy. Friday Feeling Well its the end of the week and inevitably your mind begins to wander to your weekend plans, but if you work, do you find yourself slinking out of the office early? Or maybe enjoying a long lunch break? Apparently, British businesses are losing £50 million a year due to employees skipping off work on the last day of the week, thats according to a company thats developed software to track employees work patterns, so maybe they have a motive for whipping up a problem here. The company claims their study is backed up by motoring organisations data reporting that rush hour now begins at noon on a Friday. That seems incredible doesnt it? I dont know many workplaces where you can just walk out at noon. And what were the top excuses for starting the weekend early? A long lunch was very popular, along with a doctors appointment, and an out of office meeting close to home. Apparently, the new software will not only detect undesirable work patterns, but also recommend appropriate disciplinary action. Is this the way of the future? Of course reading the Levy Letter at work doesnt count as slacking, does it?
