Hello it’s Peter here at the start of another week on the Levy Letter. I hope
you had a good weekend even if it was wet at times. We continue our coverage of
the region’s flood recovery on the programme tonight with a special report on
the aftermath of the Louth floods, where residents faced devastating water not
once, but twice. We’re there to see first hand what they’re going through.

It’s a dangerous and vital job, and tonight we look at the front line of the
flood rescue attempt - the helicopter rescue service at RAF Leconfield.

We'll also be following the Liberal Democrat Leader Ming Campbell as he
inspects flood damage in Hull. We’ve had a lot of top politicians visiting our
area recently to see the damage for themselves, of course what everyone wants
to know is what good will it do us. We’ll have more tonight.

We find out why a dropped cigarette tab cost an elderly woman £75…

And I don’t know if you’ve managed to watch this programme, it’s the latest
reality TV hit, and this one’s dance themed. We follow the Skegness girl
through to the next round of the BBC's DanceX competition.

Also on the programme tonight, we’ll be finding out why a chorus of barbershop
singers need more help.

That's all coming up on Look North tonight on BBC One, it’s at half past six as
always. I hope you can join me.

If you’re looking for a colourful event to attend over the next couple of weeks
I’m told the Sculcoates Fayre is taking place on Saturday August 4th 2007, 10 -
4pm at Surestart Fenchurch Centre, Tunis Community Centre & Sculcoates Park in
Hull. It’s Entertainment for all ages - stilt walkers, magicians, sports
activites, balloon modelling, heritage displays, chair exercise for the elderly
or infirm, craft stalls and much more.
It’s a free event, and if you want more information you can contact Lucy
Jackson on 01482 331 422 for more details. Make it along if you can, it sounds
like a lot of fun.

Corrie

It’s incredible to think that she’s played the same character for 34 years, but
now actress Liz Dawn, who plays Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street, is leaving
the soap due to health problems. She’s been part of a double act with Bill
Tarmey in the show for such a long time, although apparently Bill is to remain
in the soap, so I’m not sure how they’re going to split up the husband and wife
duo and make it believable. Sometimes soap characters are with us so long it’s
quite an emotional event for the nation when they leave. According to the
papers they’re currently working out stories for her departure, so if you’re a
Corrie fan it’s the end of an era. For the rest of us I suppose life goes on…

Don’t forget if you miss the programme or if you come home late and want to
catch up on the news, you can watch it on our Look North website,
www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. And if you know somebody who would like to receive
their free Levy Letter then they can find a link on that website for Levy
Letter, click on it and subscribe.

That’s it from me, have a good day, and join me tonight for Look North at half
past six on BBC One.

Bye for now

Peter
