Hi there, it’s the last Levy Letter of the week. And tonight we’ll have a
special programme coming live from a major seaside resort in our area. Last
night saw a devastating fire on Skegness sea front that has destroyed much of
the traditional entertainment venues. We'll be live at the scene tonight. My
colleagues have been down in the town from early this morning and I’ll be
travelling down there this afternoon to see the damage for myself. We’ll be
talking with eye witnesses and speaking to those families and business affected
by this fire. We'll also be finding out what it means for tourism in our area
and how the town plans to regenerate.

The Look North team will be out in Skegness all today and I’ll be there from
this afternoon. So, if you’ve been affected by the fire, if your property or
business was destroyed, then make sure you come up to us and let us know. And
did you see the fire last night? I’ve seen some of the footage and photographs
that we’ve collected so far this morning and the images are just incredible. It
was such a fierce fire. So, if you have any photographs or especially if you
have any video footage, then we’d love to see it. As I won’t be at my desk this
afternoon, please email it straight away to our Look North email. That way all
the producers and reporters can see it and we can get it onto the programme
tonight. Email any photographs or video footage to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also tonight, we’ll be bringing you the incredibly sad story of a disabled
couple in Hull. They feel that they’ve been abandoned by Hull City council as
they’ve failed to collect damaged goods following a fire. They say that the
pile of ruined household goods next door has become a target for vandals and
fire starters. And recently, after just such an attack, which caused a large
fire in front of their home, their dog was killed by smoke inhalation. So an
incredibly sad story. We’ve been talking to them and we’ll be bringing you
their story on tonight’s Look North. I hope you can join me at half past six.

Lots of youngsters are involved in the Lifestyle projects this summer and lots
of them have been getting in touch with me to let me know what they’re getting
up to. So here’s a little plug for Blake, who’s eleven and he and his friends
are having a Car Wash on Sunday 19th and Saturday 25th August. And they’ll be
at the Humber Bridge car park, Ferriby Road, Hessle. So look out for Blake and
his friends doing their Lifestyle 07 project. He writes – “We are raising money
for our school, Croxby Primary School, that was badly damaged in the recent
floods. We are trying to raise as much money as we can to replace the sports
equipment for our school. We would like as many cars as possible to help our
project. We are charging £3 per car, but if anyone would like to donate to our
cause, we will be extremely grateful!” So well done to them and good luck with
your fundraising.

And here’s something for you to mull over during the weekend. Mr Attle left
this answer phone message and of course I listen to every one of them and will
try and help if I can. So here’s Mr Attle’s request – “I understand from a
photograph that I bought many years ago that there was a drought at the turn of
the century. Would Paul have any record of a drought? The photograph was of my
in-laws, father in law and mother in law, in Little Weighton, carrying water
down the road during the drought. They’re dressed in Victorian dress. It must
have been the turn of the century. But I don’t know for sure. Does anyone have
any clue when this was?” So there’s Mr Attle’s message. And does anyone know
anything about the drought in this area? When was it? Can you remember your
parents or grandparents talking about it? Get in touch and let me know to the
usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

And just one more message here from Lindsey. Lindsey emailed me after
yesterday’s Levy Letter. We were talking about how Hull city centre managers
are already planning for Christmas and are talking about transporting
twenty-five tonnes of snow to create a huge ski slope in the town! Well,
Lindsey writes – “You mentioned Christmas Day yesterday. That is a coincidence,
because we are having our Christmas Dinner tomorrow (Friday 17th August). My
daughter, Melanie, is going to work at Disney World in Florida. She flies out
there on Sunday and will be away for a year. Two years ago, she spent her GAP
year working in New Zealand. We did the same then - had our Christmas
celebrations one day in August. Tomorrow we will have a small Christmas tree,
stockings full of little presents, our traditional Christmas dinner and we will
play something we call THE GAME - which also includes CHOOSING and LOSING
presents.” So Lindsey and her family in Hornsea will probably be sitting down
to roa!
st turkey and crackers about now! Merry Christmas to you!!

I can’t believe I just said that. Thanks to everyone, who has emailed in this
week and got in touch. If you’re in Skegness today, then I hope to see you down
there. If you’ve got a story about the fire and are affected by it, then do
find me when I’m down there this afternoon. Either come over and have a chat
with me or ring up straight away and speak to our producers. They’re on 01482
314501. So keep in touch with us today and let us know how you’re getting on.

Take care and have a good weekend.

Peter
