Hi there, welcome to another week of Levy Letters. Its Peter here. Thanks to Caroline for writing the Letters whilst I was away. Ill be with you for tonights Look North, so I hope you can join me tonight at the usual time of half past six.
TV There were some great programmes this weekend. Did you see the start of the Tess of the DUrbevilles last night? I think its going to be a four part drama on BBC One. I didnt know much about the story or the book before I saw the first episode, but it looks good. And another programme, I thought I should mention was the Griff Rhys Jones programme coming up. Im not sure when its on yet, but soon I think and its all about his problem with anger management. Ive seen the trails for it already and I was amazed at how candid he was about his problem. I think its on next week, so look out for it. Its called Losing It. And then I read also the news that its the last episode of the long-running BBC school drama Grange Hill today. It first hit our screens in 1978 and one of the original characters will be returning too Tucker Jenkins, remember him? Im not sure if I do. But its the final day that Grange Hill will be on our screens the end of an era! Pubs Its a British tradition to pop to the pub for a pint, but claims are that supermarkets are spelling the demise of the traditional British pub. Its all down to the price of beer in supermarkets. Amazingly, around thirty-six pubs are calling time on their business every week. Thats seems so high doesnt it? Theres an organisation now campaigning for the government to introduce a minimum pricing range to reduce the gap between supermarket and pub prices. What do you reckon to that one? Do you think that supermarkets are jeopardising our local pubs with their low prices and promotional deals? You can contact me on the usual email about this or anything else on [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brain Power This is a strange one. Ive read that sharing a bed with someone could temporarily reduce your brain power. At least if youre a man that is. This is all according to Austrian scientists. Well, I know I sleep badly anyway, but these scientists have said that when men spend the night with a bed mate, their sleep is disturbed. And this disturbed sleep impairs their mental ability the next day. And lack of sleep also increases a mans stress hormone levels. Women arent included in this, because they sleep more deeply. Im jealous over that one! Scientists have said though, that historically, we have never been meant to sleep in the same bed as each other. Sleep is the most selfish thing you can do and it's vital for good physical and mental health. As someone, who struggles with insomnia, I agree with that one! This Austrian scientist said that women are pre-programmed to cope better with broken sleep. I suppose thats got something to do with bringing up children. There you! go. Sharing a bed with someone could reduce your brain power and make you more stressed the following day. Well, that's it from me for now. Take care and enjoy your day, Peter Your email address will be held by the BBC and kept confidential, and will only be used in relation to this newsletter.
