While I was living in Las Vegas I befriended a group of
Anthropologists at the Desert Research Institute, one in particular
who specialized in Shamanism and studied it all over the world. He
invited me to join him in a few seminars with Jane and Michael Harner,
a couple who traveled with him and are considered the most well known
authority of Shamanism in the US. I enjoyed their studies, the crowds
were, I thought, large. I was lucky enough got some real hands on
experience in practice and technique from these wonderful people (no
substances used by me) and spent many hours in dialogue about the
matter. Probably their best known book is "The Way of The Shaman,"
that gives a good overview, and was required reading before the first
course.
