Sounds like a Molex connector problem. I think the motherboard on the
Elan just kind of floats / hangs off of the master module. Have a look
at those connections.
You're welcome and thanks for getting back with results...wish everyone
would do that!
best,
Ike

Hi Ike,
sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to let you know that your right
about the center section being the source of my meter trouble. After some
fooling around I gave the center section a firm "love tap" with my index finger
to an open area in the middle of the panel, and the meters jumped back to normal. I still
have some meter weirdness from time to time though. Anyways, thanks for taking the time
to write!

Hi Kris,
The circuitry that sets the 0vu
reference level (for the LED
meters) and the signal generator are on the same circuit
board so I
suspect the problems are related. I don't have my Elan docs
with me so I
can't delve into it further until Monday. I would have a
look for any
burned parts on that board and also make sure that you
re-seated all of
the connectors properly when you put the module back. The
fact that the
meter problem showed up a few days after you were in there
kind of
supports the connector issue theory.

Ike

Hello Neotek list.
I have a 36 channel neotek Élan that has been great
to me
and sounds phenomenal, but im sure everyone on the
list
already knows that, but I have two questions: first,
yesterday an interesting thing started happening,
when
my multitrack (an Ampex MM-1200 2" 16 track) is
reading
0db on all its VU meters via a 1k tone from my
alignment
tape, all of my light meters on the board (when set to
VU,
not peak) are now reading +3 instead of 0. What would
bring this on?
Also a little while ago my signal generator crapped
out on
me. I pulled out the center section and had a look to
see
if I could spy an obvious problem, but to no avail.
where would
be the most obvious place to start, as far as trouble
shooting
the problem? Thanks in advance!
Viva Neotek! -Kris
