Ron:

Notice that I did NOT write you can't set a COM port and UART
speed higher than 19,200 up to and including 115,200 bps. What I did
write was that "you can configure for higher speeds (i.e. 38,400) and
Net-Tamer will seem to properly take control of your modem. However,
communication between your computer and your modem while online with
an ISP could be garbled."

I've owned and used quite a few modems since 1984 -- some of them
USRs. Among those manufactured by American companies, I've not
encountered ONE that had problems with ATZ. ATZ is a very basic
function to modems using a command set originally known as the "Hayes
compatible" command set. Any modem that can't properly handle it
without causing problems is defective or, where most modems in a
particular line malfunction when ATZ is used, must be the product of
outrageously incompetent design engineers or knock-off/copycat
manufacturers who never had in mind developing their own technology
rather than shabbily copying another manufacturer's technology. But
again, aside from some of the cheap and highly flawed knock-off modems
that came out of Taiwan in the mid and late 80s, I've not heard of or
encountered such problems.

RCD> With a 9600 bps modem 19200 should be fast enough, especially if

RCD> From what I've heard, ATZ can do strange things with USR modems,
RCD> but there are many different USR modems.
