I envision that IT will be in charge of phones systems in the future. I admin our intertel systems for the last 7 years and unless it involves trunks or doing cross connects on the 66 blocks I do it all. When we moved one of our offices I had the guy punch all the ports in the phone system into a patch panel so when I run a new extension I don't have to have someone come out and cross connect it, I just punch it to a different panel and patch cable it. No more 66 blocks at that facility. I don't know if anyone else does it that way but I came up with the idea myself. ;-) I'm sure there must be others that do the same thing because it makes sense.
