Yes, most servers are probably running on slower hardware, but they're
usually also running on a more efficient OS tailored for running on
slower hardware. The Atom is on the very low end of the spectrum when
it comes to running Windows 7. I have a RaspberryPi running Raspian and
it's faster than my Atom running Windows 7.

Servers haven't conformed to that aspect of the http spec for a very
long time. Even the web interface is probably making more than 4
requests simultaneously. In my experience, if LMS is running on a decent
machine, image requests have always been reliable.

Well you've basically confirmed my point that a more powerful machine
WILL help.

If the 4 request limit is hardcoded, then it would make sense for me to
lower the number of simultaneous image requests. Thanks for the info.
I'm going to run some tests with the server on my RaspberryPi.
