Dear Jorge
I am not sure if Jpeg 2000 is going to be the answer. Extensis Smartscale is working on a new file format and have this on test with six stock agencies. It is not lossy, quite the opposite, and works on the principle that one needs many sizes from one original. I think they are getting bogged down in a password system attached to the file which might have very little practical value.
In the meantime I am storing RAW + Tiffs on HD and DVD until Smartscale is updated sometime within a year. Then I will re-archive Tiffs at the reduced Smartscale size.
Regards
Bob

Online libraries have to use jpeg ( note that still jpeg 2000 is still not
in general use) in order to facilitate fast downloads, However , most
Agencies still request that photographers send the original files in Tiff
format for their archives. They re-save in jpeg and transmit.
