Quoting Jorge Parra: >Online libraries have to use jpeg ( note that still jpeg 2000 is still not >in general use) in order to facilitate fast downloads.
I wonder why it is they don't like JPEG2000 it seems to be the best of both worlds. >This has never happened to me in TIFF or PSD ( or RAW) formats and I can't >seem to find a proper explanation for this behaviour. >With the lowering prices of Hard Drives, I find no better option than >keeping my originals in RAW and produce whatever format I may need for each >given situation. If you treat your RAW files as a digital neg - then you would protect them as you would negs, I suppose. BTW: did you try Graphic Converter on those files - it sometimes works where PS fails. The warning you sound then leads on to the inevitable question - how on earth you you back up - safely? I agree, Jorge, that keeping all your backup files on a Hard Drive is the first step. Then it is your choice of CD (not big enough) or DVD, and how many copies. Then will the backups survive and will the backup format become outmoded, and will the file format become outmoded.
