Also, you have too much virtual memory on machine 1. 800MB virtual should be good for your 440MB RAM machine. The speed of the disk controller for your virtual section (I assume a fixed contiguous virtual memory page one a different drive than your data?) Controllers and drivers can have a huge impact.
