No - you *choose* to maintain ACAD because of Protels shortcomings.

You can now get a free version of ProE and that does DXF/DWG and Protel 
provides Camtastic which also does DXF/DWG better than P99SE.

I paid about AUD$300 plus two cheap upgrades over the last 5 years for 
TurboCad - works well enough for all the mech work I do plus some.

My point is there are alternatives to ACAD that break the maintenance hold 
(and good riddance!)
