I'm told there were whistle signals for psgr train communication
between conductor and engineer, snowplow operation, double-heading.
Are there others? Anybody know where to find info about these in
addition to the ones that Andre cites?

One humorous story I read was about an engineer working at night in a
wharf area, could not figger out why he was being told (via lantern
signal) to back up so far..... finally found out he was seeing the
light on a buoy bobbing up and down, he found out AFTER pushing some
freight cars off the end of the wharf.

Thanks,
Ted Larson
