Yes.

I ran a brass CN-painted GP38-2 (wide short hood) and a GT-painted AM GP9 
together with no problem.  It helps to have a train to pull, so the locos 
are doing some work.  Then just watch the couplers to be sure the second 
loco isn't pushing the first, and Bob (not Pete) is your uncle.  I need to 
fix that brass loco, I think it slipped a gear.

Anecdotal evidence suggests SHS switchers and AM locos with low speed 
gearing do well together, but more observations on that subject would be 
useful.
